Just had my 110 tdi re-mapped !

Featured Replies

I had my 2002 Octavia elegance tdi 110bhp re-mapped by performance torque in Wombourne this morning, and i'm over the moon with it.

Its a lovely progressive map, no massive peaks and troughs of boost pressure, no noticable smoking from the exhaust, just a hefy increase in mid range urge and top end power.

It drove very well before, but now its even more pleasurable to drive.

Estimated power figureis 140 - 145 bhp with over 205 lb/ft of torque.

I'll let you know how the fuel economy is in about a weeks time because my average comute is 100 miles per day, so i'll soon be able to tell if its better /worse.

Just to add, Will (who runs p-torque) was a proper nice bloke to deal with as well!

I'm off now to put even more miles on the clock!!

Matt.

I will be VERY interested in finding out what happens here, as it's something I plan to do to my 110hp in a few weeks.

Excellent.

Is it their own map, and if you don't mind me asking, how much?

I "assume" so because Will was saying its a less agressive map than most people use, he prefers it that way beacuse it maintains the smooth nature of the 110 engine instead of it being a "whizz bang" type of set up.

Ive been out all afternoon doing stuff and am genuinly impressed with the mid range, especially in 4th & 5th gear.

It was £265 all in, as thats the special forum rate for Briskoda people.

Well, the power is still more than Revo quote, so it must still be pretty agressive (subject to dyno reality)

Not bad at all.

should be more torque then that too as mine was hitting 200llb ft with exhaust an intake mods, no remap

Initial impressions on fuel economy are positive as well.

Did 70 miles today, just pottering round, mixed roads, lots of stop starts, and the computer was showing an average of 61mpg. at least 5 or 6 more than before!

I'll update in a weeks time when my normal weekly comuting mileage has been worked out.

Well, that depends a bit on how you define "aggressive". You could make a map deliver with a more aggressive bang by adding fuel faster over a shorter throttle % / rev range, but still have less peak power because you start tailing off into the governer earlier. (based on diesel tuning theory, not knowledge of either map.)

Good point, well made

right, managed to do nearly 400 miles since the weekend, and i have to keep pinching myself especially about the fuel economy.

My normal run to work, 43 miles of mixed A roads, B roads, country lanes, dual carriageways and even 1 junction of the M5, the VERY best i could get, before the re-map was 63mpg. The average display on the trip computer (for the TOTAL average was about 52mpg)

Now then, the last 2 days commuting and normal daytime running about has seen up to 73mpg and the TOTAL average has got to 62mpg, so pretty much a 10mpg increase.

The range left display is now indicating 700 miles to a full tank, whereas it was 550 before.

The fuel level gauge has just passed the halfway mark with 380 miles covered since i brimmed the tank saturday.

To say i'm impressed is a slight understatment.

Matt

You'll need to check the MPG by hand (or calculator) as I'm sure remaps can affect the data used by the trip computer , but I'd be interested to hear the end result

Agreed, but I'm sure a "fill to fill" figure won't take Matt that long to produce now.

Giving rising fuel costs, maybe this is the way to save money in the long run?!

Oh bugger. That'd be just my luck, even the cars telling me lies now!!!

I'll double check on a fill -to - fill type check, as thats the only true way of working it out!

If the re-map does affect the trip computer, is there anyway of "re-callibrating" it so it reads accuratly?

Cos thats gonna spoil all my fun as i'm driving, if i havent got a "magic figure" to beat!!

No idea about recalibrating the computer, but you can still try and beat the figure, whether it's in mpg or ml per ell!

Nope , but once you've got a "true" and "displayed" figure you will know what margin of error you are running with and can take it into account.

It's likely to be a pretty constant percentage anyway so you'll still be just fine using the trip computer to tell if you are driving more or less economically than usual.

Oh , and whereabouts in Stourbridge are you? Just trying to figure out if I've seen your car anywhere.

I live just off Amblecote road, mines quite noticable because of the TT 6 spoke wheels and the Black Grille.

I take it your local (to me anyway!!) as well?

Oh yeah, and it's not like the computer mpg modes are any sort of meaningful anyway. What strikes me as bizzare is that they are optomistic, but the remaining range mode using the same data inputs seems spot on!!

I'm just off the Thorns Road now , so more Brierley Hill way , but friends and relatives are all in Stourbridge.

I'll keep an eye out for you - mine's a silver Mk2 Octavia with a couple of Briskoda stickers :)

Only just read this! Thanks for the great feedback.

Good figures can be achieved without aggressive mapping. Its all in the smoothness

The re-map does not alter the trip computer though :rofl::rofl:

Ive done a good few weeks mixed driving in the Octavia since ive had it re-mapped, and the overall economy, measured by the good old fashioned method of brimming and working it out manually, the car has managed 52 mpg.

HOWEVER, the trip computer is telling me the average is over 61mpg???

The 52 mpg equates to being marginally better than before the re-map, but it would appear the trip computer is now vastly optermistic, to say the least.

Any ideas Will, as to why that would be?

Unfortanatley trip computers are erratic a the best of times

I find mine to be very consistent. i.e. I get similar results for similar trips driven in a similar way.

If I drive my 100 mile bi-weekly trip in an eco-friendly way I get 68-72, if I drive like an idiot I get about 42-45. Whilst these figures might be wrong, I'd not say that they were erratic
