A few fixes required for the Felicia.

Featured Replies

Hi everyone just incase you have missed my message in the welome thread.

I have recently aquired a Felicia 1.3 GLI 1999 50,000 miles.

Just a couple of fixes required at the moment, a leaking sunroof and temp gauge not working correctly.

First the sunroof, a problem I knew about before I bought the Felicia. It seems the leak is coming from between the glass lid and the rubber seal, am I correct on this. Having had a quick look it doesn't seem to be coming from the roof to surround seal. I know this is a common problem on the Felicia, and apart from sealing it up with silicone can it be fixed any other way easily?

Temp gauge does not seem to move if at all after about 6 miles of driving, it does however go up to about halfway when the engine is just idling before the fan kicks in and then the gauge starts to drop. At least I know the the fan works.

Could this problem be the stat or temp sensor.

Any suggestions/fixes please.

Mick

Thermostat for the coolant issue, get a complete housing, its comes with a new sensor and is pretty cheap.

The sunroof place that we use, loosen the roof so that silicon can be applied under where the exterior frame contacts the roof. Either that or keep a bar of soap in the car, not many cars have a built in shower.

Complete thermostat assembly for the other problem, around £45, but does come with £25 worth of sensor. Once fixed run it so that you can check that the cooling fan cuts in.

Lift up the glass and clean the rubber thoroughly. Then lift up the rubber, where it folds over itself, and thread in a piece of thin single core wire all way around the rubber. When you close the glass the wire exerts a bit of extra pressure on the glass and seals it

As for the cooling system , just change the temp sender as the thermostat and housing are obviously ok. you can get one for about a tenner

Sunroof is a fairly common thing.

Mine leaked last year but hasnt since I cleaned and vaselined it.

I may have to use something else as I have read vaseline eats rubber

Silicone grease - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Silicone grease is commonly used for lubricating and preserving rubber parts, such as O-rings. Additionally, silicone grease does not swell or soften the rubber, which can be a problem with hydrocarbon based greases.

I believe you can get a tube from Maplins. I have used spray silicone oil with success though.

Ok did this fix today and it worked well, at least there is no more water getting in after 2 watering cans full of the stuff poured all over the sunroof. I lifted the rubber seal to insert the cable, I used earthing sheath (yellow/green) though and it raise the rubber surround enough to press tightly against the glass lid. Many thanks to Rigsby for the tip.

Also had a small leak inside the passenger footwell, traced to be leaking in from behind the doorcard. When the doorcard was removed it was obvious that it had been leaking in from behind the plastic film seal, as this was coming unstuck and damaged around the speaker wires. All sealed and dry now.

Still to fix the the temp sensor/stat housing so will let you know how I get on.
