Been a member for a while... I now have some questions

Featured Replies

Hi everyone

I brought my 04 VRS about 9 weeks ago now and have loved it ervery second so far. I help run another forum (bucks VAG) and thay pointed me to here, I have been a member for a while and found there to be a huge amount of info on here.

I need to have a few things done to my VRS, It has 2 weeping front struts and so I was looking at replacing them with a suspension kit, but have now decided to go for coilovers. are there any recomendations from people for coilovers? I have had a search and found so many conflicting views.

Also I need new lower bushes, are there any recomendations for these?

One last thing. The interior needs a good clean? any recomendations for what to use?

Thanks for all your help

Koni FSD setup seems to be the best suspension setup according to several members.

Rug Doctor machines, VAX too, for cleaning. For smaller areas Shout (e.g. from Tesco) seems to be very good by all accounts.

1 - I've heard good things about vmaxx, and their resonably priced.

2 - If you mean the console bushes then seat ones are the way forward (do a search for the part number, I can't remember it)

3 - I use Autoglym interior shampoo and think it's great. No watermarks and even lifted my niece's accident out with no problems at all.

If money isn't a problem, go for KW, Bilstein or Eibach, possibly even Koni for the coilovers.

If you are on a tighter budget, either V-maxx or Weitec (made by KW)

kw is the ultmate performance set up bar none, how much you want is down to budget, the cheapest are 650quid ish for the v1's and the most expensive are the clubsports which wiegh in at around 1500 quid,1700 if you go for the camber adjustment plates,so its down to budget really, but anything thats not kw is second best.

If you're wanting to go lower than 30mm, or think you'll want to tweak the setup, go for coilovers. Personally I'd go with one of the KW range - v1 or v3, depending on budget :) Sticking with a traditional spring/damper setup, go Eibach and Koni FSD (like me! :D)

Which lower bushes are you referring to? For the rear of the front wishbone, get some Ibiza Cupra ones in there. For the front of the wishbone, I went Powerflex.

Interior cleaning - I'd hire an industrial type carpet cleaning machine if you're wanting to do it yourself, and get a decent result. Personally, I'm going to a good local valeter and get a full interior job. Then apply some ScotchGuard protection to the seats.

HTH,

Steve

Thanks for all the quick replies.

I have been recomended Weitec by Jabba motorsport for what i thoght was a good price, but i didn't realise thay were made by KW.

V-maxx to mee just seem to cheep, I am not sure if thay will last long.

Ill give the autoglum stuff a go and see how it comes out, I brought the car for only 5K with 67K on the clock and FSH so there are some bits i need to clean up on it and the seats are one of them. That look fine just a little dirty.

As for the bushes, it is the lower arm front bushes that need replacing. I am not sure whitch ones to go for but if i go for the coilovers i will ask them whitch ones they recomend? but you guys say the SEAT ones?

Also how simple is the PD160 mod to do?

I'd recommend "Shout" fabric cleaner from tesco for £1.48 - works very well

remember to change the drop links for the modeo ones when you ft the coilovers:thumbup:

THe PD160 mod is very easy, takes 10 minutes at most, the hardest bit is justifying the SEAT price of around £70 for the two bits of plastic!

I know I don't have my KW's fitted to a fabia vrs but if you are looking on a budget the spring/damper package is excelent.

The ride in my octi is much firmer and has much less body roll than SWMBO's fabia vrs although the ride is not harsh and jaw breaking.

thanks for all the replys guys. I will defo give the tesco fabric cleaner a go and let you know the oucome of my suspension. i think I may go for the coilovrs.

Not heard of Proflex

I'd scrub round the FSD/Eibach route if you want the car to look as if its been lowered .

As far as coilies go it depends on your budget; KW for high price, Weitec for medium price and at the cheaper end I'd recommed AP coilovers from Venom. All 3 makes are made by KW so quality is assured. The AP's are 25% uprated so they won't shake your teeth out, my mate has just gone for AP's after running FK's for a while and the ride quality is very good.
