Road Noise - Skoda Petition?

Featured Replies

I'm now on Michelins which are 100% better

Which type of Michelins ?

Which type of Michelins ?

And which size - I intend to go from 17" to 16"

I know a good fix, it's called the radio volume kn0b!!

I hear much more noise from engine or roofbars (BTW is there a way to pull them out and cover the holes?).

I run Continental Sport Contact 2 on Zenith 18 and expected to get much harsher and noiser ride!

I just tried Dynamat to reduce some road noise of my Combi yesterday.. did not change much or at all.

At least I did not notice much of a change.

Maby the highest freguencies went a little down.

When I earlier bought thick rubber mat to trunk from Skoda it reduced road noice considerably.. So I was hopeful for the results.

Its just a little annoying as my old Octavia-I was more silent.

Though I had added some underbody compound and had pieces of felt under trimming.

It would be nice to know from where the most of noise is coming.

Hi,

Here is the list of all tyres which make less noise than the EU limit and it has been tested by dutch govt.

http://www.innovatieprogrammageluid....2001062007.pdf

it is in dutch.

from the list it can be made out that falken are quietest tyres available.

cheers

roads are being replaced with cheaper substances sometimes mixed with pulp from recycled paper (like the m6 toll road) these days they care more about the longitivity of the road than the noise it makes.

But on a lot of roads, incl. motorways, they are using a different new mix with grated-up tyre rubber in it. It is almost dead silent, on any tyres.

Also, though dearer than previous surfaces, it is apparently longer lasting and more anti-skid. Wish they would put it everywhere!

Put a piece of dynamat on the bottom of the wheel well and under the rear seats and see how that improves things.

Too late- suppose that would have been cheaper than changing the car (see sig.):eek:

Is that beemer on run-flats - now theres a tyre issue... Hopefully it won't be for you.

It is our crappy roads folks and the Treasury who collects our fuel and road taxes not to spend on our roads, but as general revenue so they can pretend they keep income taxes low for your benefit.

i hear what you are saying, but didn't really have an issue when I was in the Superb. The octy is definitel noisier but not so bad I'd take it back. It's on bridgestones and the superb was on pirelli's which were nice.

Im running Nankang NS-1's and the car is relatively noisy..but compared to my astra coupe turbo i use to own. It soaks up bumps alot better and goes around bends as good as if not better.

I prefer tyre noise to most of what's on the radio!

It*s my way to reduce road noise:cool: Some difficult, but very efficient:thumbup:
