Hello all! Quick question re VRS perfo..

Featured Replies

Hi guys, went to look at a VRS today (as per username - will be using it for private hire use)

Drove very well - handled and stopped fantastically and the gearchange was nice, but one thing that didn't impress me was the engine.

It had a bit of boost @ above 2.5k, and held this shove (not much of it) to the redline.

To be honest it didn't feel like it had a turbo (no smoke or noises though) and felt a bit slow to be honest.

Is this to be expected with a standard VRS or do you reakon this modem may have had issues? If it is to be expected then will a remap wake up the turbo and give me that shove i love?

Ps i'm getting the VRS, as most taxi drivers round here have TDI Octavias and i fancied something different. The insurance wasn't much more than a TDI plus i hear they do 35+ MPG when driving normally? Diesel is silly money at the moment and i always have LPG to think about..

I did the same when I was buying ours. I had just got rid of a Nissan 200sx s14, so the vRS was always going to feel a bit lacklustre. However, after two and a half years of ownership, I'm still happy with it's reasonable performance. Overall though, it is hard to beat for the money.

Don't expect that around town. At 65 on the M-way maybe but it's more like 24mpg round town if your driving normally. If your booting it from A-B round town about 18 mpg.

Just thought I should warn you :)

try driving a few to see as the ones i drove felt ok but the one i bought felt much stronger to drive not re map teretory but seemed to drive better. but at the end of the day its a small low pressure turbo so not going to be exactly uber gutsy.

theres a red vrs taxi in Northampton iif you can find him and find out he does on economy but i dought 35 around town.

Best I have seen from £55 is 280 miles around town (And that's normal driving NOT booting everywhere)

Yes if you add a little motorway maybe 300 ish miles!

I get that week in week out, thats with a little squeeze of the loud pedal when conditions prevail (not as often as I'd like) :)

Great for PH use but thinkabout the MPG when you drive "Briskly"

Thanks guys, i currantly have a 156 V6 so anything above 24MPG will be a nice suprise!

The car i drove had Xenons which i understand were an expensive option worth having.

Hmm will have another look tom, it might be worth putting a deposite down!

Hope you enjoy it:thumbup:

Ahh it was taxi talk. It was PH that had me (private hire) :D

 no worries mate

get as many options as you can imo as always helps with resale.

if you wanted more performance you could alway go for a boost controller and have it at normal levels for work and then turn it up as and when you wish for a bit of fun.

Think i'll get one of those remaps off ebay, don't think i can trust myself with a manual boost controler! Ha ha

It should be pretty quick - 7sec 0-60 not slow imo.

Boost should pick up just after 2k and get interesting around 5, 100 in 3rd is possible so I am told ;)

I average 38mpg+ but I drive mainly rural

I got an ebay remap. Best £200 Ive spent. I agree the standard car doesnt have much punch, the remap really brings it alive.

Also, the same guy does postal ones for £89.

Cruising on the motorway I can easily get 35mpg+

Around town 25-30.

Not trying hard enough, Got 40mpg cruising to work and back, thats on single and dual carriage way with a bit of overtaking. If i really go for it 35mpg. Get 400 miles from tank before liht comes on (55 pounds worth)

Even being this economical still sees of most things on the road

Surely it'l be the best taxi in town, certainly get you home a lot quicker than all the other minging taxis around:thumbup:

hiya-just to give u my input,i have just had my best tank yet out of my 51plate octavia,351miles to 51 quids worth. so im going for 400 sometime soon...they arent too bad really i dont think considering its a turbo performance car!

If its running very low boost its probably been run on 95 octain fuel..................I believe they should be run on super unleaded to run as intended.

Trev.

nah the merc s class i got home one night in Northampton was very nice! only thing id worry about is the white seats so id be looking at some good seat covers

Seat covers will be a very good idea if its gunna be used for ferrying around nightclubbers with too much alcopops in their gullet:dtp:

On the subject of economy, I've started to run mine on regular UL recently rather than SUL. The car feels no different and I'm getting quite a few more miles to a tank. I used to get around 280-290 (petrol light would come on around 260-270), but since the change it's regualraly gotten over 300, I think it's done almost 330 once. This is mainly town driving, with occasionaly bootage.

The only other things I can think of that may have affected the economy are removing a sub, but that's not a massive weight and removing my private plate, which I think might be cursed!
