How many miles will the VRS last ??

My vrs has just passed 23k and I was wonedring what the forums opinion is on how long, or how many miles can I expect my beloved vrs to last without anything serious going wrong ??

This always depends on how a car is looked after but Skoda's tend to be tough. After a night in town guaranteed the taxi is an Octavia. Always ask the driver what the mileage is. Highest ive seen round here is an MK1 Octavia with 490k on the clock. Apart from usual servicing the only thing that had gone wrong was the alternator bearing. And that wasn't a one off either. Every taxi driver I've asked with an Octavia tend to say the same thing - nothing goes wrong.

As of today mine has lasted 105,615 miles. 2003/03 80k+ Remapped, original clutch & turbo

In all seriousness I do, and have always believed that it's a matter of how much you look after it. If you drive it like it's stolen all day, every day and drive through potholes every day on your commute, it will last for fewer miles than someone who drives it at a more reasonable speed and travels on smoother roads, or drives in a different position on the same road to reduce wear and tear on the car - I'm hoping mine will last to 400k easily ;)

Some Fabia VRS's have only lasted 5k others 490k

80,000 miles, used as a driving school car (ChrisGB has gone longer) original clutch/turbo, drove like new when I got rid... (cheap resitor mod for 50k, overfuelling) just killed my EGR valve, suspension died though (of course the dreaded control arm bushes) and skoda refused to replace them under warrenty ..

To the OP on 23k, I think it's safe to say you've got a fair way to go :eek: - a degree of mechanical sympathy and regular servicing with preventative maintenance will work wonders :thumbup:

Definately an 2003/03 ;) Original Reg was GN03 *LJ. One of the first Fabia vRS in the UK. Prior owner was Skoda UK and it was used as a press car. I have the DVD of it being spanked round Anglessey by a bunch of journo's to prove it :P

Surveys such as JD Power show Skodas (Fabia and Octavia) to be very reliable. There are always exceptions to the rule but on average it seems you can't really buy better.

The two biggest reliability issues with the Fabia are the leaky doors (search on here for Stu's DIY guide) and the crappy suspension bushes (which are quite a bit harder to fix yourself, but can be fixed a prevented from happening again by using different parts). Many of the sensor issues can be put right fairly easily too.

Beware of making judgements based on negative comments on here - quite a few people sign up with a problem, find out how to fix it and never say anything ever again. Very few people post up with how well their car's running, however!

86,000 miles and still going strong!! :D

although shes had a new Clutch and Flywheel due to being an internal error (nothing to do with wear the Skoda dealer said!) and replaced under warranty, apart from that and the turbo pipe coming off, and the rear washer jet popping off now and then its been brill! :D

RE VAG engines, a few years ago there was a MK2 golf diesel some of you may or may not remember that had done over 400,000 miles and was still going strong. VW actually gave the owner a brand new MK3 golf diesel in exchange for his car so they could strip and examine the engine, last i heard it was fully stripped and on display at VW Germany.

Just to add this was serviced and maintained at regular intervels :thumbup:

40,000 miles so far.

New suspension bushes (done under warranty), "stripped" back brake and the rear washer pipe keeps popping off.

That's it so far, well pleased, let's hope it stays that way!

I'm at 55k. Aside from the dreaded 'bushes' - fixed by using some uprated Seat ones, it's been faultless. It's standard, it's warmed up and cooled down, serviced when the book says it should be and treated with mechanical sympathy. I love it.

I'd like to be still singing the same tune in 100k time. :)
