new cr diesel review

Featured Replies

Just bought the latest issue of Auto Bild (finnish version). It had a review of the facelifted A3 with the 170bhp 2.0 cr tdi w/stronic, which if I've understood correctly is just a rebadged dsg.

Well, I'm glad to "report" that the engine and gbox combo got raving reviews. According to the paper the engine is so good it makes pd engine look like a coffee grinder. They say you can only hear it being a diesel at idle when the engine is cold. Even then you have to really listen. From 3,000 rpm it's said to sound really sporty and pull nicely all the way through 5,000 rpm and more. They're actually comparing it's smoothness, refinement and performance to the current 3 litre v6 petrol engine.

If this all is true, it means great things for the vrs. I'm sure happy I decided to go with "the fuel of satan" instead of petrol when ordering mine.

Remains to be seen, when first ppl in here get theirs but I for one am looking forward to this!

Sounds like the power delivery is more like a petrol.

All new diesel engines come with dpf these days. Not possible to make engines matching euro 5 emissions without it. All new engines developed are made "future proof" by making sure they'll pass at least euro 5 if not euro 6 with small mods. It'd be hard to pass even euro 4 without dpf.

Cheers Juha

Now my waiting until July 22 for mine will take so much longer

Only the VRS has a DPF in the UK and these other engines meet Euro 4!

That is true, yes. Perhaps I made a bit too big statement but for new engine models this is certainly true.

All new engine models will have dpf by standard because everybody wants their engine to go through to at least the next level of Euro pollution specs. As for does it matter, I reckon it doesn't in the future. DPF systems are developing fast as well as new software tuning etc is taking into account the possible dpf.. So afaik bring it on, at least I don't mind dpf.

The VRS TDi, the 2.0 TDi Scout and the 2.0 TDi 4x4 ALL have DPF's.

the 2.0 PD has none in other configurations on the Octy ;)

What are the power stats for the new CR engine??

About the same

IIRC

The 2.0 TDI CR delivers 125 kW (172PS) at 4,200 rpm and sends a full 350 Nm of torque to the crankshaft at engine speeds between 1,750 rpm and 2,500 rpm.

But on the manual hatch the CO2 drops from 151 to 150 putting it in a lower road tax bracket
