Nothing dubious here, the computer is a friends and he has put linux on there and also messed up windows, so I would think the best thing to do is flaten the drive and just have windows on there.

I hve just found the windows cd so i'll try that!!

Thanks,

Ben

The windows cd should give you the option of which partition to install to as well as the option to delete/create partions and format them as appropriate.

If your friend has data on a separate partition be careful not to format it inadvertently.

I think it's ok now, I used the windows cd and reinstalled it and now it's fine!

I hope this is alright. There are many issues with this when people normally do self-builds. They are that happy it works they normally rush the install and don't partition the drive correctly giving separate partitions for different Operating Systems.

The net problem is where they then try to format it and it all goes poop. I would suggest the same as above. If you put the Windows disk in goto your BIOS and boot from CD. Then just run the set-up and wipe it all that way.

If you need any more help or have any more issues then please send me a PM and I'm sure I can guide you through it.

Many thanks,

Rob

If your friend wants to try Linux without the hassle of partitioning and potentially messing up M$, suggest they try Wubi - Ubuntu Installer for Windows.

Also for partitioning/formatting drives, Linux Live CDs usually have something like Gparted that will do the job nicely. I know Mepis does. A great distro but no Wubi like option for dual booting. You have to do it the 'traditional' way.
