Sorry for the obvious question Stu, but do you have to leave the engine cover off?

Yes.

The OEM filter sits inside the engine cover so it would obstruct the fitting of any sort of intake.

The ideal solution is to aquire a used cover and make some adjustments to it. That's what I use.

Yes you do............Or modify, but that would render it useless if you wanted to revert back to standard......;)

Another option is an EVOMS cover -

Nice setup,

but I don't see how the intake could suck the most desired volume of fresh, cool air.

Is your car performing better?

Funnily enough one of those Evom engine cover things has ended up in the for sale section........

I will leave this to Stu to explain...............

Nice setup,

but I don't see how the intake could suck the most desired volume of fresh, cool air.

I don't see why?

The EVOMS is quite well proven, the secret is the large 'box' that houses the filter end and ensures warm air from the engine bay isn't sucked in.

Is your car performing better?

I've had the Evoms for quite some time. Yes it does do what it says on the tin. :D

Yes indeed..........they do work well...so much so i bought two....:D

As a ball park figure the EVOMS will give an extra 15bhp over the standard OEM filter arrangement but that's assuming the car is mapped.

Looking at that Dbilas, the surface area of the filter appears to be rather small?

In terms of gains and performance there are plenty doubters on other forums.......have to say i'm not one of them, it performs very well...

Don't mean to be critic.

I checked

Browser Warning (don't know why it's displayed as a Browser Warning: it is a link to vvv.autospeed.com/cms/A_1023/article.html)

and related articles on air intake.

BTW I'd like to tweak my intake :D

Ciao,

I don't understand - What are you critiscising?

Sorry for my rough English...

I don't understand how will the setup get air at higher pressure and at less °C...

The EVOMS employs the standard air intake from the front of the car to force air into the 'box' that surrounds the airfilter.

The EVOMS uses a partially sealed enclosiure to ensure that warm air doesn't get into the filter and it also uses the existing air intake to direct air nto this enclosure. It is this that sets the EVOMS apart from many other intake systems.

I see,

I will try to do on my TDI some boost pressure measure like those explained on Autospeed (no advertisement intended).

Do you mean that the Evoms just replaces the plastic bit behing the bumper so the filter is still in the normal place? or does the evoms contain a new filter and you run the standard intake tract without one?

If its juts replacing the end bit then it should be easy enough to copy the EVOMs with a vacume former and knock them out for bugger all :)
