Don't bother.

Just swap the red and yellow in your new head unit wiring loom and then disconnect the wire that goes to the powered aerial feed (blue one) as otherwise this will put power down the K line (Bad).

You will also need a device to send power to the aerial amplifier in the base of the aerial, but a search on here should give you all the details you need.

Yep.

There's an amplifier in the aerial base that needs a power feed.

Normally it gets it from the factory fit head unit , but not from an aftermarket one so you need an adaptor to do this.

Without you'll get poor FM reception and no MW at all

Thanks HTH, when you say disconnect the blue wire do you mean from the new loom that comes with the new head unit or from the cars blue line feed?

I'm getting the aerial adapter off Dr Zoidberg which appears to have a blue wire attached to it (presumably for the fm amp?)

So to recap....

SWAP the red and yellow around on the new loom fresh from the pioneer box!

Disconnect the blue cable from the loom fresh from the pioneer box!

Connect the aerials blue cable to the loom fresh from the pioneer box (presumably to the connection we've disconnected in the previous step?)

I've bottled not getting an adapter now... better safe than sorry etc ;) I'm seriously confused though!

As I’ve already said I have an mk1 Octavia vRS which is actually on a 55 plate (I think the fact it’s an mk1 from later 2005 is causing the confusion).

Am I correct in thinking this wiring loom is correct?

hi according to the list the loom for that vehicle should be iso the same as the vw range the loom, the year change from pc2-69-4 (98-) and the pc2-75-4 (02-) hope this helps

In the 2nd one though it doesn't look like the blue cable is disconnected, do you have to do this regardless of whether you buy an adaptor or not? To confuse matters more the PC2-69-4 was the right way to go?!

I don't want to go blowing anything up :(

I'm starting to think I may just fork out to get it fitted somewhere! I've already bought the unit now though !! :)

I have to say I am getting confused too now, only 3 cable to sort out, yet I can't wrap my head around this.

Please don't waste your money on a wring harness!

There is nothing scary about doing this. Your new headunit will have bullet connectors on the red and yellow cables so that they can be swapped. See, even the headunit wnats you to do it yourself! Then, all you need to do is disconnect the blue wire that is labelled up power antenna or something. Just cut it on you're new stereos loom so as to preserve your cars wiring.

I didn't use an ariel booster, mine worked fine without. I've now done the same in my new Golf and again, haven't needed a booster. DIY, it's not hard, honestly.

Umm, just make sure that you're not confusing that with the remote turn on that you would use for an amp. Often they will come as a wire that is not connected into the ISO block. I'm pretty sure the wire you need to check will be blue, possibly with a white stripe and maybe go into pin 4 of the ISO plug...

Well its all in now and seems to be working perfectly although you've worried me about this blue one again!

There wasn't any single blue wire coming from the loom, just a blue and white one from either end of the head unit loom. Both had bullet connectors and weren't connected.

Well, hopefully all is okay. Problems that might arise from K Wire problems I think will involve your central locking and electric windows playing up etc. or, blowing up someones VAGCOM when they connect it up!

On the black block of 8 (ISO connector), the one you want to leave not connected is Pin 3, which is the `Self Diagnosis - K wire`

Obvious disclaimer that you do all this at your own risk etc etc.

My Wife has bought me an Alpine unit for my birthday tomorrow, so if all goes well using the instructions here, I shouldn't blow my electrics :D

coming from your HU you will find big red and big yellow, on bullet connectors. Swap'em!

coming from your HU you will find A blue/white, which is the remote switch or antenna or P-remote: this cable passes a +12V to your antenna or Amp, when the HU is switched on.

The Wiring loom on Octavia's have this wire going in on the K-wire, so it is important you do not 'pass down' that power. (however you do this, do not allow connection, and make sure it doesn't touch any grounded part of your car.... experience has told me this tends to fry the HU cough cough

The only changes i had to make to my pioneer deh-p700bt was to swap the bullet connectors for the red and yellow wires. All blue wires were already disconnected. So far i haven't had any issues with windows etc.

edit: i presume if i was going to have issues i would have seen some by now (a month or so after installation)

Mines been in for a month. I swapped the wires around, but then had to by an amplifier for the FM radio (still not perfect reception though)
