Greetings all,

I have just become the very happy owner of a silver Fabia VRS whose history is the stuff of myth and legend.

An 04-plate, the car has covered only 7980 miles – and all of those by a retired gent who had it serviced by the book at the same garage he bought it from.

Mint condition inside (even the seats) and out, a distinct lack of stone chips and original front tyres with even wear speak of an easy life – up until this week at least.

After only two days of having the car, the glow plug light started flashing.

A quick search on these forums soon pointed me to the infamous dodgy brake light switch.

Got one.

Interestingly, on my car at least, I found that although the main brakes lights did not work, if I removed both bulbs the high-level brake light would illuminate when the brake pedal was pressed.

Note that this did not happen with the bulbs in.

Handy to know if your switch goes while out and about and you want to lessen the chances of people rear-ending you.

Glad I could add to the Briskoda Infosphere.

Now, it could be that the functionality of the high-level brake light was possible only due to the way my switch was failing and so be a one-off (some Briskodian switch guru out there is surely bound to know), but if not, then at least the Bulbs Out Emergency Workaround should help get you home with fenders unbended.
