Expected tyre lifespan?

Could only find a similar discussion on the Octavia I board, so:

What have people found to be the "average" lifespan of Michelin Pilots on the 18" vrs alloys?

Covered 13,300 miles in the last year and they still measure up nice and legal. Experience of previous cars has taught me I don't tend to get much longer out of tyres however....

I changed my fronts at 25K on my Vrs TDI. Not sure what make they were, think they were Michellins.

15k on front with bridgestone still going strong on the back.

i rotated my fronts to the rear at 11k, a few mm left on them before there down to the indicators

With the amount of rain you get I'd change them way before that. There were some tests going on about braking distance in the wet with new vs worn rubber.

Worth noting that one, absolutely. 5th Gear tests showed considerable differences once a tyre tread went below 3mm.

Other European countries also have more stringent tyre regs, illegal below 3mm in Germany IIRC. So if you're running Continentals, a German manufacturer, expect their performance to dramatically reduce after this point.

3mm total or legal + 3mm?

I had understood their legal limit to be 3mm of tread across the central 75% of the tyre, but I'd need to double-check.

I got about 22K out of mine :)

I got to a little over 25K but probably had 2K more in them. 2.0FSI hatch with OEM Bridgestones.

New Falkens (FK-452) on now are rather nice!

Got 16.5k out of my Bridgestones on the front, and 14.5k out of the Michelin ditchfinders they were replaced with. Its a company car, and the policy is to change the tyres at 3mm of tread.

I believe the French legal limit is 3mm, 4mm for Germany.

id refuse the car, at the end of the day if you get pulled its you that gets the points on your license or you that could be in court up for man slaughter, or even worm food lol

Get the dealer to clearly write any failed works by a lease firm and reasons given. ;)

Hit a tyre carcase on the M25 once that ripped the break line. Glad I decided to check straight away. Trying to get to hard shoulder from lane 4, in rush hour traffic and no breaks isnt for the faint hearted!:eek:

Lombard replaced the affected break disk, calliper, pad kit but wouldnt pay for a new hose and break fluid. :rolleyes:

Employer had to cough up the £120. Go figure.
