More Returning Than New

Featured Replies

I have to say that I was never a fan of DSG whenever I test drove cars that had it. The concept sounded great, but it just never seemed to work in practice. Just recently, my company have given me an Octavia L+K DSG whilst I wait for my new Superb.

From driving a DSG every day, I've found that I quite like it. It requires a different driving style, but the result is a much more relaxed and economic drive. I still don't like the lag in drive when initially pulling away, or putting the car into reverse, but I've learned to anticipate it. My real gripe is if you try and pull away quickly from a junction. If I stamp hard on the accelerator from rest, I expect it to go like the clappers immediately, but this simply doesn't happen.

The one thing I can definitely say is that really sporty driving is off the menu, unless you have the flappy paddles (which I don't). I definitely wouldn't buy a vRS DSG at the moment, simply because you can't get the paddles yet.

If I was driving in areas with heavy congestion, I would definitely stick with the DSG. As I don't, I've opted for the manual on my Superb.

Bagpuss.

Thanks for that; it pretty much confirms my opinion.
