What's car is going to be next for you ?

Featured Replies

Both petrols and diesels seem to blend high outputs with low emissions better than other manufacturers.

A 330d Touring could make it onto my next car list.

But BMW cheat with the CO2 emissions by quoting them using the stop/ start technology

But BMW cheat with the CO2 emissions by quoting them using the stop/ start technology

Why is that a cheat, if the test cycles allow the cars to stop long enough for it to activate?

I agree that it's little or no benefit on a decent run though.

If it allows me to purchase a fun car and not pay through the nose for road tax then a BMW may have just crept its way up my shopping list!

Those are very impressive figures. I wonder what the 1 series has to offer?

It's cheating because Audi have managed 154g/km out of a 210bhp 2.0T petrol engine in the A5 without any stop start rubbish. Imagine what it would be if they included that technology as well .......

Audi tt I reckon.

Nice cars for the outlay. Watch the warranty small print, it is 3 year unlimited miles / 5 year 60,000 miles. I would quite possibly have had one as a school car apart from rear visibility. The 1.9 16v diesel looks very nice. Check out car brokers for some very good deals.

Really?

It says on their website "five-year unlimited mileage warranty" which seems pretty clear to me.

Damn cheeky if that's what they are trying.

I've emailed them to get confirmation in writing.

Three years unlimited mileage is still better than my Octavia anyway

So you mean it's cheating because either:-

1) you don't like the tech.

2) no-one who makes a car you like has implimented it?

Ok so my comment was a little "off" and tounge in cheek. But if you ran a beemer engine with equiv power to the new 210bhp 2.0T, continous over a set distance at a set speed it would put out more co2 than the Audi engine.

BMW have used a technology that doesn't reduce the co2 output when the engine is running, but just turns it off. I would reckon IMHO, in everyday communtor driving the BMW would put out more real co2 than it's figures suggest.

Haven't been a great fan of BMW's lately, but they have released some details of the facelifted 3-series due next year and the engines look mighty impressive:

That'll be the EfficientDynamics, I'm guessing. Very impressive.

probably something dirt cheap for me to thrash about that I don't really care about that much and that I can do all the servicing and maintenance.

I'm thinking of an ax gt at the minute!:D

I think I accepted that point about needing a stop start cycle with significant idling to benefit from the tech back in post #52.

I'll be getting an octy mk2 tdi vrs estate.

Could be a while though, just found out we're getting a flat.

Dependant on company car/fabia and current house sale I am considering something from a shed in Blackpool, possibly a Sagaris or a Tuscan for the weekends.

Something stupid for me.

Evo / Scooby / Skyline

LOL

Mebbe an Octy TDI VRS. They look fun.

I agree that the VW/Audi 2.0T is a good engine with low emissons and makes a very viable alternative to a diesel, but some of the other engines fitted to the A4 are not so impressive in terms of power / emissions / economy, not least because the higher power ones are quattros which doesn't improve economy (the 3.0L diesel is 183g/km, BMW 330d is 152g/km).

I know BMW use the start/stop technology, but even so, that is an impressive range of engines and it'll ensure that they are all relativily cheap on VED.

It just a pity that they look the way they do, even with a facelift the 3-series still looks like it could miss out on a prom date!!

Hi Alex

Unless it has changed over the last couple of months, the deal is an unlimited miles 3 year manufacturer backed warranty + 5 years 60,000 mile dealer warranty. I have considered contacting the ASA about it.

I'm waiting for the reply from them.

If it is anything other than 5 years unlimited mileage as they say then I'll be onto the ASA myself.

I've had a couple of decent results with them in the past

The cars are very nice mind. What version are you looking at?

Fiat Bravo, Mitsubishi and Mini are doing 3 year unlimited as far as I can tell. Hyundia is proper no small print 5 year. Everyone else seems to be 2 year unlimited 3 year 60,000 dealer. Kia 7 year is 100,000 limited.

The one with all the toys (dynamic is it?) plus a few options and a 1.6 TDI engine. Might even be tempted by the Eco version if they haven't messed up the way it drives.

I was considering going for the 180bhp diesel when it gets launched but the price of fuel has put me off that a bit

Soon as i get the confirmed date at work for Mk6 Golf coming out i'm ordering a Final Edition Mk5 Golf GTI. MK5 GTI is the best Golf built to date and in my opinion with new european legislation (and reasons behind Mk6 coming out so soon) will be the last.

Will be the most expensive thing I have ever bought... eek house next!

*Note to self, must move out of parents house one day*

How far in the future before the MkVI is announced ? Few months, early next year, back end of next year?

Back on topic.... really haven't got a clue at present with the price of fuel, tax, inflation etc.... not sure what I'd go for, maybe a Golf GT with the 1.4TSI (and invest in one of the new Revo maps) or another Octavia VRS (petrol, hopefully with the new 2.0 TSI engine), BM 318/20d estate in M Sport spec, new Superb again with the 1.4 and a remap.... so many factors to consider when thinking about a new car these days

One thing I think I can say is that I'll be keeping my current car longer then my normal 12-18 months
