Hello Everyone. I'm Mark from the Wirral.

I currently own a modified 106 Gti (made 143 on the awesome rollers Pre 4-2-1) guessing it’s about 145ish BHP (light cars are GREAT). Unfortunately due to much higher mileage for work I have to hand this over to the girlfriend (at least I still get to drive it). Couldn't really go from a Gti to a really slow diesel so looked around for something with a bit of poke. Fabia seemed to tick all the box's.

I'm picking up a silver 55 reg with 35k milles. With full leather interior and a remap stated to be 180bhp (doubt it will make that much power TBH). What are we looking from a remap.. 15bhp?? Not sure where it was done. Somewhere in the Northwest though.

I’ll be doing about 350miles a week. How much do you think this will cost in fuel? Its mostly motorway miles too. Because I leave early in the morning I can cruse into work at an average 60MPH without too much stopping.

I’ll get some photo’s up of both cars if you’re interested.

Any tips as a new Fabia owner?

Future planed mods..

160 Intake,

Koni or Bilstine lowering springs and shocks.

May try and get the car to an ACTUAL 180BHP fly figure. AwsomeGTi isn’t too far from me. :)

Welcome to the forum, you should have 165 BHP easily from a remap.

Enjoy....................

180 bhp is possible even for a generic remap. From a custom you might be able to get closer to 190 without too much difficulty. Your economy will depend on how you drive and what the remap has done to it. If you cruise at 60 without too much stop start driving you should be able to get close to 60mpg. If you believe the trip computer you might be able to get closer to 80mpg.....

is the trip computer not accurate??

I'm good at both types of driving. Put 40ltr in the GTi 280miles to one tank = worst (track day at knockingham). 450miles = best. (Cardiff and back on one tank).

May have to take a trip to a RR to see what this thing is putting out.

Wonder how it'll compare to my current car??

Some seem to be better than others. Mine is typically 20% out compared to manually working it out. I think there is a fudge that you can do through VAG-COM to tweak the settings to some extent, but it's not possible with later models. My vRS is going in for a service soon and I'll see if the dealer can do anything about it. It shouldn't be rocket science. After all, the fuel gauge is reasonably accurate (otherwise you would get stranded), so why can't they work out the economy accurately....

Aww so the 70mpg claims are not true??

I'll easly get 450 to a tank if I drive right though??

I would say 560 - 580 if you do a search for the secret extra tank capacity trick on here.

The computer thingys on re-mapped cars are usually not accurate (assuming they were accurate to begin with).

I agree.

How many miles do you get when the fuel light comes on 30?

Normally for me about 80-90 miles left on the tank when the engine light comes on :)

Cheers mate.

Always good to know as it varies from car to car.

I think my trip computer is about 7% out.

i find it hard to believe people get 60mpg once remapped.

before my remap i used to see 55+mpg on the computer, but nowadays 43-45 is normal, and 50 if i tickle the accellerator and don't go above about 60mph.

From what I've seen on here, it seems that most decent remaps will actually slightly increase your economy. The trouble is that they also make the car more fun to drive which means that you hoof it everywhere. If you really are tickling the accelerator I reckon you've had a bad deal on the remap. More likely is that you don't realise how much welly you're giving it:).

I thought it would go down too but was told that when driven economically it'll go up but when booting it, it'll go down.

I have just sold a remapped fabia vRS, that was RR at 180 BHP & 300lb/ft torque, I never believed the trip computer and did brim to brim calculations, both before and after.

Personal experience was

Without map 400 - 420 miles before warning light came on ( depending on how heavy footed.

With map 380 - 400.

Did a tank to tank experiment with remap and got just on 59 mpg, doing 60 on motorway, and 40 - 50 on Kents back roads.( 110 mile round trip.).

The down side was I couldnt use the torque for what its best at - Overtaking :(

Can you tell from the photo if it has Xeons?

hi there buddy no it does not have any xenons pal

Cars looking good, I've just bought a 2004 Fabia vRS and I love it, it has a switchable Revo map which makes a massive difference, unfortunately it makes it almost impossible to drive economically as you cant not help booting it everywhere. I see you're planning a couple mods in your orignal post, may I suggest you look into getting a Rear ARB fitted, the difference to the handling is awesome and with good springs your in business! The guy I bought mine off had to have a Sachs clutch fitted after the remap as well as it kept slipping 500rpm or so when he shifted gear as the standard one couldnt handle the extra beans!!!! I also need to get mine RR'd but want to get the PD160 fitted first although I dont think it will much difference reading what people are saying on here, I just like the idea behind it! :)

Enjoy the car, let us know how it compares to the 106!

Car looks good. Like the leather

Well I went out in a 130bhp one on Saturday. I really liked how it drove and the quality. It just felt more grown up. My GTi is quite a bit faster but thats not what I got this for. Not sure how a mapped one will be like. Really looking forward to picking her up.

Take it Xeons can't be added at a later date?

I think a rear ARB and some decent suspension... and possily bigger breaks are on the cards before anymore go faster parts. My bigger breaks and Koni's were my best purchase for the 106... and the manifold lol

Hi, congrats on the new purchase, I've seen this car on Pistonheads ;). it was between the one I chose and yours! I picked mine up just over a week ago and love it - I know exactly what you mean about it being more grown up (I used to have a Ka).

From what I've read on here, aftermarket xenons are not the easiest thing to install, but have a search and it should bring up some answers for you.

The first weekend I had the car I was hooning it around everywhere and still getting an average of 48mpg  by the computer. Having said that, I don't seem to be able to beat that even in normal driving at the moment! Too much traffic

Best of luck for when you pick it up!

Welcome, Mark from the Wirral.
