Quiet, comfortable tyres?

Featured Replies

I've now decided to replace the 17" alloys on my L&K Estate with 16" wheels. The suggested tyre size is 205/55 16" but I'm at a loss to know which tyre to select. The main criteria are, in order, quietness, comfort and decent road holding. I don't do a massive mileage so wear is not so important. I'd be grateful for suggestions - many thanks.

Falken f452, no doubt. They meet your needs. I'll stay on 17" and get Falkens in September just because my needs are same as yours.

Had Falken FK-452 for 2 weeks or so. Really very nice - quieter, softer ride but light, firm handling. Really glad I got them.

cheap as chips as well :)

I know they are expensive, but I recommend Continental Premium Contact. I changed from Pirelli P6000 to these and noticed a big reduction in road noise. I'm looking forward to getting rid of the Bridgestones ER300s on my Octavia and going with the Contis.

Also have a look at the Autoexpress website which has an excellent and recent tyre test.

I have those Bridgestones too, they are very noisy. Excellent traction though, but the noise is horrible. Whatever you choose TS, avoid these :D

Well, I think I got done, ended up paying £76 a corner, bottom line, and then the idiots had to get in an alloy refurb merchant to redo three of the wheels, which did come up like new I must say.

I think you should be able to get them for, what, mid 60's a corner fitted??

Thanks for advice. Have now ordered a set of alloys with Falken FK452's from Rochford Tyres. Should arrive next Monday; will post my impressions when fitted.

Decent choice; well done. Hope all goes well.

Very good, keep on posting the experience with them.

I run 16" with 205/55/R16 and out of the bridgeston, conti and falken 452 I'd have the falken every time.

They might not last quite as long but they have more grip IMHO and also are quiet and much cheaper.

Bit of a hijack but has anybody run the vredestein wintrac xtreme tyres?

Thinking of getting a set of the V rated ones come the late autumn.

Hi,

Here is the list of all tyres which make less noise than the EU limit and it has been tested by dutch govt.

http://www.innovatieprogrammageluid....2001062007.pdf

it is in dutch.

from the list it can be made out that falken are quietest tyres available.

cheers

Can't get the link to work but am still very happy with mine after today's battles with A23/M23/M25/North Circular and local roads. V. Nice tyres.

You've posted the link the wrong way. It's not working. Copy the link from the address bar of Explorer to the post so it'll work.

Thanks

That test shows the FK 451 though which is an older tyre with a different compound etc.

Is it still on the market, I mean can I order it?

I don't think so and also it wasn't too hot in the wet either.

So if that Falken is not on the market, what Falken is? I mean, with same low noise figures.

Well the FK-452 replaced it and did so a good few years back
