Daytime Running Lights

Featured Replies

I notice in the handbook it mentions there is a fuse for this option. Would it need to be enabled with VAG-COM?

I'm quite keen to enable this as I drive with my lights on all the time in the Fabia

Already had a look, but us RHD models dont have the Fuse/button pictured in the handbook :thumbdwn:

Surely you could buy a fuse and or button?

You know they have proved that all DTRL's do is burn more fuel? They have no saftey implications.

I'm sure I read that they would require some extra wiring.

Weird so may countries mandate them, then. Like the 33 million people in Canada (who own more vehicles than the UK). And before you trot out that "Yeah, but they are in the dark north" go look at a world map and remember 80% of Canada's population lives within 100 miles of the US border.

Just another example of UK standards being dragged kicking and screaming into the 20th century. Of course, it's now the 21st...

My fave is that the law still forbids side reflectors on motorbikes in the UK. Ever looked at a cop bike in your headlights at night? The ENTIRE side of the bike is reflective tape.

But, no, NO side reflectors allowed on bikes in the UK. It's our law. Must be right. We're smarter than the rest of the world.

It was only a couple of years ago that DRL headlights became mandatory on bikes here. That's 40 years after most of the civilised world.

People are very funny when it comes to automotive safety and standards. The French had their yellow headlights. The UK has vestigial rear foglights (when was the last time you saw rear fogs used correctly? Ever?)

The UK has its handbrake-at-stops (almost universally ignored now), reversing 'round a corner (illegal most places), no undertaking (road rage instead), 60 mph speed "limits" on single lane tracks... oh, I could go on.

In case anyones interested :

The part number for the switch is:

Switch: 5J0 941 503 WHS

Connector Plug: 8N0 971 636

plus applicable gauge repair wire.

Of course, you also need to have the DRL relay fitted.

The switch simply gives the option to turn off the signal from the headlight switch (from the "TFL" Pin 3) that goes to the relay.

I believe you can buy a retrofit kit from Skoda to get the relay and some plug and play wiring to initially set up the DRLs - this kit does not include the dash switch, so it would have to be wired in separately.

The kit appears to have part number BEA 700 002

Don't forget to confirm numbers with dealer before ordering.;)
