panel filter vs induction kit vrs

Featured Replies

I think there is a difference;

the panel filter will filter the air at the manufacturer's designated location. I think induction kits are designed to go and get the air where it is (supposedly) colder.

Performance? well, like anything in life, the chain is only as strong as its weakest link; so if you put effort in the intake of air, you might want to think on how to get rid of the exhaust gases.

IMO both panel and induction kit seem to allow the engine to pick up a little better, which is an improvement, but that does not mean you will see an increase in BHP. At most - again IMHO - that would mean the Turbo spools faster and power is on tap quicker, hence increase in performance, not in BHP.

I fitted a panel filter; £35 as opposed to an induction kit, £140

...however many of these ch@vs are going into the local car parts shop or argos catalogue and buying a huge loud and often illegal (not road legal) exhaust and bunging it on. Also many of these chav racers are doing so much to try and make their cars go faster and taking more risks thinking its faster, yet when it comes to stopping their rust buckets they forget that their brakes are standard and cannot cope as well.

I think the ch@v's primary concern is NOT speednut to be heard and be seen, it is a cry for attention and a way to show they too exist. so, you can expect loud exhaust, Ministry of sound full blast, windows open and radiator on. And don't forget the vanilla smell

Has no-one on here done vag-com air flow logs, or back to back rolling road runs to try and finally put this to bed... Does an induction kit, example Carbonio, lose power when compared to std airbox and performance panel,example Green and caf? Is the only real gain noise as so many people claim? Surely some real results add weight to either side of the argument....

does anyone here have an induction that sucks from the floor? after reading above about the air being cooler there it reminded me of a magazine (think it was rev's) in the late 90's showing a mod to get extra hp's it was a foil pipe like he ones used between the engine and the air intake area on old sierras that was basically gaffa taped to air filter and taken down to the bottom of the bumper and gaffa taped there too :rofl: they claimed about 5bhp extra just from that mod :rofl:
