Noisy cam again

Some time ago I said i had a nosiy cam chain, well finally got chance to take it to the garage today and guess what......

They said that there was a metallic noise coming from the left hand side and took the car round the back to the service bay. :eek:

The guy there said that the tensioner on the left hand side ( There is a belt there that controls the inlet side of the cam ) was Knackered. :eek:

Carnt get me into the garage for 2 weeks..........

Hope it lasts that long.

At least i now i am know not hearing things :thumbup:

Is that the thing that rotates inbetween the Valves to open/close them?

I think all that it does is tension another cam belt from what i could see, maybe ross clarke could tell us more?? :thumbup:

On the 20v engines you have a cambelt on the left hand side of the engine as you look at it. The cambelt drives a cam pulley connected to the exhaust cam. The inlet cam is driven in turn by a chain on the right hand side as you look at the engine. This chain has an oil pressure fed tensioner on it. More often than not its this tensioner that causes the infamous rattle on start up that the 20v's can suffer from now and again.
