Driver's door - unidentified button ?

Featured Replies

Over the last few months I've read:

"The foglights seem to come on when I turn the steering wheel."

"Sometimes one side of sidelights comes on when I switch off the engine."

"What's the funny little dial in the glovebox?"

"What's the button on the door?"

The answer would appear to be: "Your car must have come without a manual. Go ask the dealer for one."

Just by way of light relief, can anyone recall any stupider questions? I guess we could all do with a laugh.

Two of the questions were points I required clarification on.... won't bother in future if this is the attitude on here... :(:thumbdwn:

The attitude here is perfect, mate ;). But you have to admit, that the questions Meadway quoted are quite funny. Just read the manual before asking questions, it`s simple and it works...and noone will make fun of your questionsB_thumb.gif Best wishes!

Having just read through this post TBH, does ANY car manufacturer write a manual that everone can understand at 1st time of reading, without having to take the manual out to the car and try the instructions.

Perhaps there should be a Manual for the Manual............

Roomster manual page 38 -

Locking the vehicle: press button 1 (lock symbol) for 1 second

Locking the vehicle and deactivating safe securing system (deadlocks, see page 34): press button 1 twice in 2 seconds.

Roomster manual page 40 -

Interior monitor and towing protection (applies to vehicles with anti-theft alarm system) -

To switch off the interior monitor and towing protection: press the button on the driver's door and lock the vehicle within 30 seconds

I've RTFM - have you???

I've just read this thread and I have to say that I have asked a few obvious questions even though I have read the manual. Some things aren't where you would expect to find them in the manual and others aren't explained as well as they could be. My example is the button by the handbrake that resets the tyre pressure sensors. It doesn't appear in the picture showing all the other buttons and controls. You have to go to the tyre pressure section which doesn't help if you don't know it has anything to do with tyres.

Regarding the original question, the button inside the drivers door turns off the inside motion sensors. Pressing the lock button on the key twice turns off the whole alarm and deadlock system. Oddly though there's a warning not to use the button if leaving animals or children in the car as it would be difficult to break in to rescue them if necessary. But when else would you use it?

Double pressing the remote disable the deadlocks and sensors, but the alarm should still be active.

The button should really only be used if you leave dogs in the car - NOT humans!

And as to the hostility, folks please. This isnt the spirit of Briskoda. It's what separates us from other forums like a ford one i could mention (very hostile, lots of owners that hate new people). Briskoda is a friendly community, and why people like to return here.

I am a bit confused. Page 40 of my manual says "You can also switch off the interior monitor and the towing protection, by deactivating the safe securing system - page 34."

And I left the dog in it with the locks double clicked today and the alarm didn't go off. Last week I locked it as normal and the alarm did go off.

Well my manual states that in some markets that button releases the tailgate.I thought forums like this were here to help, judging by some of the answers obviously not

I've been puzzling over this for some time now. My manual only refers to it turning off the motion sensors so I couldn't understand why it has a symbol on it depicting a car with the boot open. It's identical to the one on the key for unlocking the boot and not like the pictures shown earlier in the thread. It doesn't ever light up either. I keep meaning to try using it then testing the motion sensors but I haven't got round to it yet. But, why would there be an internal boot release when the boot is always unlocked if the doors are also unlocked and the car is stationary?

OK, I've read the manual yet again and found another bit I originally missed. On page 8 the manual, referring to the button on the door it says

"Switch depending on equipment fitted:

− Unlocking the boot lid* . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 36

− Interior monitor* . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 40"

On page 36 it says

On vehicles with central locking unlock the boot lid by pressing the button on the

driver door fig. 24.

On vehicles with central locking unlock the boot lid by pressing the hand grip

above the licence plate.

On page 40

"Switch off the interior monitor and towing protection

– Switch off the ignition.

– Press the button  on the driver door ⇒ fig. 27.

– Lock the vehicle within 30 seconds. The interior monitor and the

towing protection are switched off." and

"• When the ignition key is removed or a door is opened, the symbol in the button

lights up red.

• Lighting up of the symbol in the button does not confirm that the interior

monitor and the towing protection are switched on."

Now I'm assuming a misprint and that the first bit should say "without central locking", because the bootlid is locked & unlocked with the other doors if you have central locking. In which case, have I got the wrong button? I have remote central locking but have the boot lid icon, and the button appears to do nothing, it doesn't even light up.

If like the Octavia, doesnt the boot lock with the engine running?

If like the Octavia, doesnt the boot lock with the engine running?

Don't think that's right as, in my Octavia, I have often stopped at some traffic lights and, with the engine still running, got out, opened the boot and got something out.

In the Roomster, this button cancels the interior sensors linked to the alarm; I use it when leaving our dog in the car.

If like the Octavia, doesn't the boot lock with the engine running?

According to the Roomster Manual, all doors & the boot lock at speeds over 15kph.

Except mine doesn't. It's marked with a boot opening icon instead of an alarm, doesn't light up and doesn't seem to do anything else.

IIRC the boot button is disabled with the handbrake off.

That can be set by your dealer or someone with VAG.COM. or what ever the new name for it is ;)

I'm assuming mine is already set to do that. The boot lid doesn't feel as though it's securely latched when it is unlocked and, if it didn't lock on the move, could conceivably open whilst driving, but there's no way to test it.

I'm going to ask the dealer about the door button next time it goes in, and I'll also ask if the central locking can be reprogrammed so all doors open on the first click. I can't see the advantage of only unlocking the driver's door, and I'm getting so into the habit of the double click that I'm doing the same to lock it. That then disables the alarm & deadlocks.
