Not another creaking vrs.

Featured Replies

Hi all, had a creaking noise started about a month ago. Did the normal thing and used the search on this wonderful site to try and discover the problem. As with so many a creaking from the front end on speed bumps etc.

Last night i changed the arb bushed and drop links and bingo ,noise stopped , well at least for ten minutes, the fact it stopped tells me i am in the right area, how ever i left the plastic sleeves on the arb and fitted the new bushes on top .

After more searching tonight should i have removed the sleeves and fitted the buses with grease, the bushes did have splits in, is this normal? or should they be solid.

Would very much like some input i know i has been covered before but there seems to be some contradictions . Thanks again Omni.

Sorry forgot to say 04 vrs 41000 miles , and i get the creaking by using a trolley jack on the chassis behind the front wheel. Has anyone else noticed this?

TBH when I first got the vRS I had the same problem.

Being skint at the time I couldn't afford a replacement, and after trawling the forums got equally confused. talking to some (non-VAG) mechanics of my aquaintance I eventually cut off the split plastic sleeves, polished off the rust underneath with emery paper and fitted new bushes and clamps (the bushes are split) It cured the problem and has been fine ever since.

This will probably raise howls of protest from others. :)

One day, funds and time permitting I will probably get round to replacing the ARB properly, but until then other costs have taken precedence ............

Mine does the same thing, had the ARB's replaced which cured it four about a week then it came back. I had it looked at and one of the suspension arm bushes (I Think that's what he said) is worn and creak's when moved which could be causing my problem.

Quoted me just over £100 to repair with labour and tracking etc.

Mine is also an 04 VRS with 34k on

Thanks for the input guys, think i will take the bushes off and remove the sleeves, hopefully the new bushes will not be too big on the bar without the sleeves, this noise is driving me mad!

ive got this atm and put it down to the car been under a cover for a month but makes me think its something else now. looks like itll be more money to sort it.

so the front ARB bushes can be one of the culprits? will this have adverse affect on the car?

If they are worn then it could make the car feel loose in the corners (so the other threads about this say).

Sorted it last night, jacked the car up ,left the wheels on and disconnected the droplinks from the arb, grabbing the arb and moving up and down creaking a goodun .

So removed the clamps and cut the plastic sleeves off and hoorah no noise! Put it all back together and sweet as a nut. Thanks for the input guys Omni.

Mine only used to creak when it was warm and dry.

Then the ARB went and I got a bill for £180!

I've got creaking aswell and going to replace anti-roll bar bushes, anyone know what size bushes i need for a 53 plate vrs estate

I cant see they would be any different to mine ,they are 19mm, try avs car parts.

The aftermarket don't list a 19mm bar size, thats what confuses me 21 or 25 i think are their options

To be honest dont think in hindsight neede to change them the old ones seemed to be as good as the new ones ,think it was just a matter of removing the plastic insert.

has anyone hot a y pictures of said area? showing whats happening.

if you remove the plastic sleeve you need bushes from a audi, the originals are 21mm with bushes, 19mm if you remove plastic-cost £10 the pair from Audi TT(these never had the plastic on). never found the need to change rollbar which is what dealer wanted to do!

1j0411314R which are 19mm bore not 21mm, so i assume it is another suffix- not sure if it is a P? but R is 19mm and cost £9.09Pr
