Stuck rear wheels

Featured Replies

I expect this is old news, but may still help someone:

Swapped my wheels front to back last weekend, rears were stuck on, as usual (never been off the car before) so what's to do?

Length of 2" timber between the bottom shock mountings and the rim - off in seconds!

thats ok to do ,up the path near the house

but at 1.30am on the hard shoulder of the M6 in the p1ssing down rain

i hope you cleaned the corrosion off the hub and applied some copper slip

Obviously. And obviously. Just sharing my experiences in case someone else can't get theirs off the car, that's all. Cleaned up and Copaslip'ed.

If you're stuck at the roadside I gather the stock advice is to let the jack down till the tyre is back on the ground with the wheel nuts really slackened (but not off the studs) and then heave the car about a bit on the suspension.

That's exactly how I unstuck mine. Leave the bolts a little loose, loose off the jack, grab the top of the wheel and rock it. You can also try driving back and forward *very* slowly. Like someone else said, clean the corrosion and coppaslip the hub.

Always ensure the dealer removes the wheels every service.

With many alloys, they can fully inspect, and in some cases, replace the pads without touching the wheels.

That's fine, until you need to! Had to get the RAC out to get mine off as I used so much force, the jack slipped enough to nearly drop the car! Wouldnt have been pretty if the wheel had decided to pop off.

Had this prob the other day when trying to get off my old alloys.

Had to kick the shiiiiiiite out of it.

But have now sorted it.

Is this a common problem on all cars or just skoda's.?

I have never had this problem before.?

I think they should, but mine had clearly never been off in 3 years.

having just had my sill repaired after the jack slipped, I'd reccomend checking the wheels ASAP, and using a proper trolley jack.

All cars. Alloy wheel, steel hub = corrosion.

i had to put my spare on last week, nearly ripped my arm out..lol, didny expect them to be on that hard

If you have trouble taking them off at home try pouring a kettle full of hot water over the middle of the wheel (not the hub behind it) and it should come off easily

I tried the hot water trick but it seemed to make no difference.

Leverage, brute force, followed by a clean up and some high temp grease seems to be the best action and cure. Keep the bolts in loose in case the car come off the jack though!

True its on the increase due to more cars having alloys as standard, but I remember having trouble with my Ford Escort 1.6 Ghia which had steel wheels back in 1979 - before the car was 3 years old - since then I've always used copaslip to avoid it happening full stop.

My general rule with anything likely to seize up is to coppaslip it.
