Getting excited about getting the MX5 back on the road

Featured Replies

I know this sounds really sad but I'm actually getting quite excited about getting my MX5 back on the road. I've hardly used it the last few weeks because the shock absorbers needed doing and then last week I SORN'd it and the MOT ran out.

Anyhow it's been in the garage having some new Koni Sport adjustables fitted and a couple of brake pipes done and hopefully should be sorted this evening. Hence I'm looking forward to seeing what transformation the new set-up will give and to adjusting it all and seeing how it changes how it drives... It also felt strange having an empty garage as well as it's lived in there every night for the last ten years...

Sad but...

Just in time for a load of rain! :( Hope you get to drive it soon...

Enjoy it Mark :drivesaf:

Not jealous at all :(

Steve

I've had the roof off virtually every day for yonks:thumbup:(found out its fine driving through rain as long as you don't stop!)

Toying with the idea of lowering it at the moment.

Great fun.Hope you get motoring soon :)

Well got it back last night and the first impressions are good - much less crashy and less rigid with a much more supple ride. The shocks are stiffer than the originals even on thier softest setting and I've then got them stiffened up further to roughly half of what the range is. They are dead easy to change as well - fit a knob to the top of the shck and twist! I've also had super poly pro bumpstops and boots fitted as well, got a brake pipe replaced at the same time and got it MOT'd.

So I now need to get it taxed and used a bit so that it all settles down again. It is currently riding slightly higher (10mm or so) than it was before (I measured it before I took it in) but the springs are set on a lower perch than the originals so it should settle down over the next couple of weeks as things bed in and lose the 4x4 look!

But looking good so far... Oh and yes it was pi**ing it down when I collected it!

Aye it's great to be out in the rain or generally with the hood down.

Alas for me the end is nigh as to purchase a usable daily/weekend car I must sell mine and this time I must sell it. SWMBO has grown wise to my tricks of not selling things :)

Excellent news! I was a bit worried that I'd wasted my money on some Eibach springs initially as the car still sat quite high after they were fitted. It took a couple of weeks to bed them in though and it looks and drives really sweet now. Hope you enjoy it mate.

Cor,£133 for Eibachs for the Mk2.5,.......£89 for the Mk 3

Thats not fair!

Oh dear - it's always bad when SWMBO sees through you... It's the reason I'll NEVER manage to get a supercharger fitted.

The MX5 was nice on standard suspension so uprated must be sweat :)
