Aren't cover notes included in the price of your insurance policy,

and are just from your broker to show you have insurance in

place while the policies, etc. are produced?

Rob

Cover note is really just a temporary insruance certificate to allow the dealer to get your road tax and allow you to drive the car until the real certificate turns up. No extra cost.

Just need to ask your insurance co for one.

Sorry, just the way i explained it, what i mean is the car will not start its policy of insurance till 8th august, which has not been arranged yet, however to tax the car a cover note is required. As a result i need to call insurance co. for just a cover note.

Hmm...it won't be a cover note then - for a cover note to be valid, your insurance needs to

have technically been arranged and started...

Rob.

day tripper, expanding on what Rob has said, a cover note is issued when you have applied for insurance for a specified vehicle and have paid or agreed to pay the required premium and is valid for a specified period - usually 30 days - pending completion of insurance arrangements. That may involve you producing evidence of NCB, paying the premium, or maybe a broker dealing with the insurer and arranging the issue of a policy. But you cannot get a cover note providing provisional insurance before the date insurance cover starts - since there is no insurance in force to provide a cover note for! One other point. The finance agreement will require that the car is covered by fully comprehensive insurance from the day that you become the owner.

This is getting interesting...

Denis , strange as it may seem , I find that I'm in total agreement with you

Oh dear what a situation we have here...

First of all, if you have signed an order form, that is a binding contract, anything that is written on that order form forms parts of the contract, anything that was 'said' is less watertight. The dealer is perfectly entitled to keep your deposit and sue for any lost profit.

If you sign the finance documents and they are sent to the finance company and 'paid out' that is also a binding contract so you will have your 0% - however to get them paid out the dealer will have to provide an invoice and therefore register the car.

My biggest query in all this is the alleged two weeks to get from Grimsby - once the dealer has 'called the car across' from Grimsby it should be with him within 5 days (often less).

We have customers coming in this weekend to buy cars that are at Grimsby and they will get their 0% no problem.

I can see no reason why your deal should be at risk - don't cut off your nose to spite your face. I'm not sure why you are willing to lose

Just out of curiousity the order form says "used car order form", shouldnt it be a new car order form. Would this mean the contract is invalid.

Secondly how would the dealer lose out as there is a two month waiting list for a vrs.

day tripper , don't tell us you are going to cancel the order , your saga has been going on longer than the Forsyte's .....................................please just take delivery of the car and enjoy it :D

I think its time you had your nappy changed it must be getting full with all the stresses and strains of buying a car at the age of 2:rolleyes:

Call the dealer and ask them for a delivery date and if that is in some time in the future, ask them if the car will be under their insurance until you take delivery of it. If they say no, then you will have to pay for insurance (and get the cover note to get it taxed) from the day they tell you to.

I don't think that's part of the contract - they just tend to use

whichever forms they have to hand. Think mine was a "new car

order form", despite not being a new car. I doubt there's much

between the two types.

Incidentally, why are you wanting to wait until August to insure

the car? Will it really be cheaper being 22 than 21? I found

it didn't make a scrap of difference, they still viewed me as a

young hooligan!

Rob.

I suspect the only times you'll notice drops in premiums are at ages 25, 30, and 40.

Just insure the dang thing and start running it in...

Mark

Hmm...it shouldn't be stressful! I found it an enjoyable experience, but then I also didn't find

buying a house anywhere near as stressful as most people seem to think it is...

Rob.

I'm sorry to say, but it is only stressful because you didn't investigate the costs properly.

I *loved* buying mine... :)

2 test drives, a bit of haggling, picking up that beaut... Very pleasant staff, too.

Consider it life experience.

Regards,

Mark

Must admit I haven't found purchasing my car stressful. Knew what I wanted, haggled a bit, agreed deal. Then you have to wait. All exciting stuff.

I always make a point of finding out how much the insurance is before even starting to talking to a dealer; if it isn't reasonable I forget about the idea of buying.

Only stressful thing about moving house is the actual moving.

Getting organised is the key to any major purchase!

I will now step down from my soapbox.;)

Cheers.

Adrian.

Must disagree on the stress thing - my RS purchase was slightly stressful as it was bought from a private seller who had oustanding finance. Constant calls to him / his bank / hpi people did leave me a bit frazzled (and I was buying with cash!) - upside was that as a result I got a good deal as most other people wouldn't have been bothered to try and deal with the hassle factor.

Also found my last house move rather stressful .... although might be something to do with getting married, moving house and changing jobs all within three months
