Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Hav a look at the pic. See the problem - the plastic is turning white. The car is 13 months old. What / How can I get this back to its proper colour ??

IMHO, you take it to your dealer and tell them to sort it out! :D

I'll second that !

Yes, that looks pretty horrible... Is it different material than the rest of the bumper?

Hi there...

I put tyre polish on mine and have also used on previous car, keeps it black but gets dirty quicker,

or of course you could take it back to the dealer!

Have you got any polish on it? Best stuff I've found for textured bumper strips is autoglym bumper care.

Nope, the same plastic thats on the rest of the car (the front is fine but the back is getting bad)

No polish on it. I've tried "Back-to-Black" on a bit of it, but it returned to the grey colour after 1 week. I'll talk to the dealer's Service Manager about it tomorrow

My old Octy was 4 1/2 yrs when i got rid and the blacked plastic looked perfect. And it never had any additives/stuff applied to it.

Edit: Out of interest, have you tried peanut butter to see if that works. I know its not polish/wax whiteness, but you never know.

Sorry to see that its very strange, bring it back to the dealer.

You beat me to it, Andy! Well worth a try.

Looks like it's oxidising......try the peanut butter trick.....I think it's due to the oil that makes it work........or try some trim restorer by Zymol...works wonderings on my bump and door trims.

I have found that "Back To Black" is really "Goes To Crap". ;):D

My Octy estate did that i used peanut butter brings it up excellent, I think it is caused by objects rubbing over it. I doubt the dealer would do anything as it seems to be wear and tear.

I sent an e-mail to the dealer's Service Manager and got a reply from him saying..."I've one on order, bring it in"

grand so...

See - I said you couldn't use wire wool to polish your car with ;)

Morning chaps.....

Could it be that the paint has got thin through months of love, attention and polishing ? The rear bumper is actually made of white plastic, not black as would be the sensible choice. I know this due to destroying a Mini Metro with the rear bumper of my Octy at the weekend...... Definately killed the Metro, minor cosmetic damage to the bumper of mine which revealed the white plastic. Only trouble now is the accident repair centre want the car for 3-4 days to repair it...
