Gearbox fitting

Featured Replies

just had word from Mr.Mechanic and it sounds like my gearbox has failed and i have the chance of getting a 6 speed box from a 225 audi TT with all needed fittings, question is will this fit without problems on my 4x4?? or will it clash on any parts in my engine bay??

also considering asking about the turbo and manifold from the same car, how much other work is needed to fit said turbo??

mechanic just called me, while draining the oil bits of bearing came out too

come on people, someone must have some idea on this kind of thing?? need to get it sorted asap. will all the fitments be the same, will the box clash with anything at all in my engine bay and will it affect the speedo by any wierd thing it may do??

Bengie, try sending a PM to ffelan, or perhaps give jabba a call.

 manny

glad someones hearing me

We are hearing you, Bengie - it's just that you are asking difficult questions. There is a 6-speed box for the 4X4 but it looks substantially different to the 5-speed one and the gearchange linkage is of course different. Good luck with the change.

cheers denis, i'm just pushed for time and i got a bit impatient, my apologies to all.

with the 6 speed box that i have my eye on the chap is including the linkages and other bits that i need to get it working(so he tells me anyway), another question is will the gear stick be different or will the base of the gear stick area be different, might sound obvious and stupid to some but i am obvious and stupid so i dont know.

glad you mentioned the 6 speed for the 4x4 denis, any idea if its the same box as the TT?? if it is then i should be in luck

Yes it will fit, now thats the easy bit but check to see if you need any/all of the following.

Clutch

Flywheel

Starter Motor (If flwheel etc is different starter will be different)

Hydraulic pipe

Linkeages & gear stick

Engine mounts may be different if they come off the box

Drive shafts (if box is a different width these will need to be changed, The TT has a different track to the Octy so these may not fit but S3 ones should do the trick, also problem may be one side only)

Re Turbo & Manifold PM Paul Ffelan for the definative answer, it might be worth doing but only if its cheap, Im always dubious of s/hand Turbos. A friend just bought a set for a R34 Skyline & they lasted 48 hours which reinforces my view.

cheers stuart, already done flywheel, clutch and getting linkages and other things, surely the starter motor wont change as it runs on the flywheel though.

how much wider is the TT, the 4x4 already has a wider track than the octavia, not much but it may be the same

just got off the phone with jabba, what a helpfull bunch of people they are! would be glad to do business with them in the future.

looks like to fit the 6 speed i would need:-

gear box

transfer box

selectors

hydraulic lines

starter motor

2xdriveshafts(not longer as such just the diff is about 15mm over so one longer one shorter)

and clutch

bloody typical really as i only just bought the clutch

that lot is gonna set me back a bit, update when i find out

But your clutch is fairly new? Should be able to reclaim some of the cost if you know what I mean ;)

Oddly enough the gearbox on my 4x4 was "beyond repair" when I traded it in. I had no idea atall and it was driving fine. It was the rear box though, so technically not the "gearbox" but it is a box of gears and it was broken.

if i do go ahead and get the 6 speed the clutch will be sold on, hopefully. only in ther car a week and only done about 100 miles. bugger. my gear box isn't beyond repair, just expensive

found out this afternoon about six speed and necessary parts, sorry guys but it aint gonna happen, not now anyway. even going to a breakers its still gonna cost
