DVLA and Insurance Co's. Hacked off!!

Featured Replies

Car tax needed for the end of the month. Car ins. in a couple of weeks so while I had the money paid it last week.

Form came through from DVLA so thought I'd do it on line. Came back and said I had no ins. Bunch of plonkers!!

Phoned ins brokers, gave me a load of waffle about the combined Ins. co's database having a flaw!!! As my ins. runs out in the middle of the month it registers me as having no valid ins. !!!!!!

I pointed out that I had paid them over a week ago so surely that would countermand the one running out!!

Ohh no, not going to be that easy Sir, they only update once a month or even six weeks!!

Apparently people have been pulled over by the police (ANPR probably) and told they have no ins.

They have then had to phone their ins. co. and get them to confirm to the police that they have a valid ins.

Tried doing it by phone, same thing, no ins.

If I go to my nearest PO I will have to queue for an hour!!

Whats the point having the internet facility if you can't use it.

Had no problem with my other car, perhaps they have got somthing against Skodas??

I'm totally fekked of with it all!!

Get a 6 month tax this time, then when it next runs out you will be mid policy.

If you get pulled over, produce your Certificate of Motor Insurance showing the expiry date - the MIB database is only a convenience, the Certificate is the legal document.

Regarding taxing on-line, I've done it several times without problem, but I thought that you couldn't actually do it until AFTER the 15th of the preceeding month, by which time the DB should have been updated anyway.

You want to do that anyway so you can get another year before it goes up :thumbdwn:

Mine is due next month and I'll try on line and see if there are any problems?

I always use ASKMID to see if cars are insured.only because we run a recovery business and i like checking jobs that i come in.lol

My friend had the same problem with the dvla website.I never use it after her havin trouble

Thanks guys some good points made!

Couple of things. Don't like carrying the Ins cert around car getting nicked while it's in there!

I thought that the new tax regime came in in March, tho' depends from 1st. of the month or end.

Good point about a 6 month tax so will give this some thought.

Insured my car on Sunday @ 15:00 online. At 17:00 day after it showed

up as being insured on the ASKMID database. Guess it`s down to the insurance

company putting the details in, and then allowing 24 hours before the database is

sychronised.
