Part number for Power Steering Unit Please

Featured Replies

Hi

Could anyone please provide me with the part number for a Power steering pump please. Its for a W (2000) reg Fabia 1.4 comfort.

I have changed the angle sensor and the problem still exists, i.e. no power steering or incredibly intermittent power steering. It worked the other day when its was chucking it down .

Any help would be most appreciated

Thanks

Mike

I would check with your local Skoda dealer for that with a full chassis number as there seems to be a couple of different types.

Replacing anything is hit and miss without getting the system iterrogated first by a Skoda dealer or someone with VAGCOM to check for other issues that may be causing your problem.

Good advice Phil.

As said there are at least two varients of the pump so before you part with any cash you'll need to be sure it's the right one.

Have you changed your battery?

If you really really need to replace the pump, and your'e are footing the bill, have you considered buying a warranty'd refurbished unit - they are available and I'm amazed that VAG do not wake up and offer an exchange service on this expensive but refurbishable part. Remember they do exchanges on small items like waterpumps - I could be out of touch though and exchange steering pumps may now be available from VAG.

Hi yes changed the battery and still had the same fault. The Alternator seems fine as well.

Is the part number on the unit itself. Last time I was under it I couldn't see one, but I suppose it could be under that crumbly rubber stuff thats on it

I'd take your vin details to your local Skoda garage and get them to give a written quote to supply that part - you could always ask about an exchange if they exist through VAG while you were at it. That way you will have the correct p/n and a price to base any thoughts about going down the remanufactured route - I think that there were two suppliers used originally - but now maybe only one TRV ? (could be wrong about that name). I can supply details wrt the UK based remanufacturer - they have an online shop. Maybe the dealer would just give you a bit of paper with the p/n and price on it (the idea being that you could pop back in and order it later using this information - or in reality you use this info to buy an exchange remanufactured one).

I think to view the VAG p/n you either need to remove the front bumper or use a mirror - the ident label seems to be on the front face below the connectors. (GOOGLE electric steering pumps - and you will find one on ebay that has a picture etc and a price - but has ended).

There are 2 types of power steering pump, one for TRW steering box and the other one for KOYO brand.

TRW numbers are:

6Q0423156Q (vin last digits < 6Y-3-830 644)

6Q0423155AB (vin between 6Y-3-830 645 and 6Y-4-929 644)

6Q0423155AE (vin after 6Y-4-929 645)

KOYO numbers are

6Q0423156R (vin < 6Y-4-929 644)

6Q0423156AA or 6Q0423155AD (vin after 6Y-4-929 645)

You may distinguish between TRW and KOYO by looking at the angle turn sensor, TRW box has a flat sensor and KOYO has a round one.

But I guess the best way to find the part number is to get under the car, unmount the engine shield and to look at the pump

Good luck

Right, I've found out who remanufactures electric steering pumps, its BBA , their website is www.bba-reman.com and they are located in Rochester Kent. I see that they do not list the Skoda pumps, could be that only Skoda used the KOYO pump and later Fabia and all Polo and Ibiza use the TRW type. So, to work out which system you have, it might be as easy as comparing the green reservoir cap shown on the picture on the BBA site for Seat and Volkswagen cars - if it has vertical lines and has an integral dip stick with a "button" on the end of the dip stick, then it will be a TRW type - either way you will still need to read the part number, for that you will probably need to strip of the noise suppressing cover - the crappy rubbery thing that traps the water in and causes a lot of these failures it seems. I would not be put off by the fact that BBA do not list a pump for Skoda as it could be that they could fix your one anyway - I'd contact them once you find out the part number. The reason that you do not want to consider buying a TRW for a KOYO system is that for a start all the pipe terminations will be different - these two systems are just not compatable it seems! Exchange price seems to be £200 and they come with a 24 month warranty!! Dealer's price will be £500+ I think!
