How much oil does yours use??

Featured Replies

Had my service done at 65k and checked the oil yesterday 68K and it was almost at the min level, the sticker they put in the car says variable service, on checking the information on the max dot it says 6K until the next one.

My superb never used oil between services of 20K and still doesn't after 220K

Surely they dont use a pint of oil every 3K do they?????? when its not driven hard

Do I have to use that expensive oil or would a normal semi synthetic do

5K so far since service and hasn,t used any oil yet.

Nothing here yet for my 57 Reg, but I'm only on 8k

Are you confident the oil was fully topped up on service or was it perhaps underfilled? The 1.9 TDi engine is not know for high oil consumption as opposed to the 2.0 TFSI engine that is!

Handbook for my vRS TDI suggests 1L per 1,500 miles is acceptable IIRC.

From new it initially was using 0.5L per 3,000 miles to about 12K and then 0.25L per 3,000 miles. Since its 1st service at 18,000 miles it has continued at about the same 0.25L per 3,000 miles (although this is a bit tricky to judge as it got overfilled a bit and has now 5,000 miles later has dropped to the 'max' mark on the dipstick).

Here is another RS TDI.

Did 77500km sofar (just over 48000mls) and had 2 services (at 30tkm and 60tkm). Filled up 4 liter in between the services up to now.

Do, however, drive a lot of autobahn at speeds well over 110mph.

What cheap oil would would any of you suggest for a top up

No cheap oil. Just any oil that has the 507 00 VAG mark.

Here in Germany we have a couple of shops that sell it at about 8€ per litre.

This shop will send to the UK, he is a member of the German Octaviaforum.

Ichwillautoteile.de GmbH - Motoröle

I wish! :D

Me too

Answer to question 1 1/2 ltrs for 28500 miles, apart from the serviceing, and that was in the full position when it went in.

My vRS TDI has used about 3 ltrs in 34K miles.

I wish! :D

I wish no more, another Jaunt over to Sunny AutoBahn Country coming soon :D

ive topped mine up with 1.25 litres in 17.5k mainly after doing lots of motorway driving it will drop very slightly, but then months of driving short distances to and from work and it wont move.

I've got a 2.0 TDI 140PS that's on variable service intervals

& according to the service book the VW Norm for that is 506 01.

(There seemed to be a choice that surpassed 502 00, 504 00, 507 00 etc...)

When looking at a massive display of oil recently,

the shop keeper had to look through various booklets to find that only ...

Shell Helix Ultra Extra conformed to that spec out of the ones he had in stock.

Naturally it was the most expensive.

It makes me cringe to see all these adjectives on labels ....

Super, Extra, Ultra, Super Extra, Ultra Extra

when really they mean ...

Dear, Dearer, Even Dearer, Dearer still, Even dearer still

Cars last service was 58k, now on 71k, topped up with 1.5 litres in that time.

Has included some autobahn & mountain useage.

1.9TDi PD has used half a litre in 13k miles and will probably get to the next service without needing another top up

just to help everyone here is the detail of all suitable oils for the Octavia;

When I need oil for a top up (I always carry a 1L bottle in the car) I buy Shell Helix Ultra VX in a carry bag with gloves, paper funnel and wipes, from my local Skoda dealer for around £12.00 - pretty good value I believe.

Mine uses 1 litre for 13k, the dealers reckon that 1 litre every 1k isn't unusual!!!

I've put in 1.5l in 11k miles.

Seems to use less if it's only filled to 3/4 max.

My 2.0 FSI used max-min at around 14k.

SWMBO drives it, and had decided the 'cleaver' maxidot would tell her to put oil in - which luckily it did!

I change the oil every 15tkm , aprox 10 kmls and I use the 507 00 always.

My 140 pd has now 60tkm and drink 1 ltr in this interval but before first service when I drive on continent she use 3 litres in 6kmls so when you drive over 120mph expect this.

I read in a thread that the normal semysinthetic will do but personaly I try not mix the oil in my engine.

My 1.9 tdi 105bhp is on variable and I use just under a litre between services. A litre of the shell helix for the PD engine is around £12, a litre of diesel is about £1.23 at present. So about £60 to fill the tank and that gets me 600 + miles, so I would say that makes the engine oil cheap in comparison.

My 2,0 TDI (BKD + steinbauer p-box) uses 0,5-1L between fixed service intervals (15kkm). Oil is Castrol Edge turbo diesel (505.01)

Looking at that other thread 507 00 covers a range including 506 01.

Yet the shops selling the stuff had to look through several lists,

to find 506 01 mentioned at all.

Oh well at least I've now got this extra info, for the next purchase.

Ive used just under 0.5L to 1000miles, but thats with it having some hoon and continous stop start driving at 119k.

I doesn't worry me that its used that amount, once had a 1.6 16v Mk3 Astra and that use to do about 600miles to a litre in winter.

Had a Mk4 Astra Coupe Turbo, and that did about 1500-1600miles to 1L.

My 2008 Octy (1.9 PD) has never used any oil (in the 4000 miles since new anyway) and the 2006 model I had previously didn't use any between services either.
