12V feed for Gauges

Featured Replies

I'm fitting some gauges underneath the stereo and was wondering if anyone had an idea of where the best place to tap into a 12V feed sould be? I am thinking of robbing the ash tray light to provide the juice.

There'll be a reasonably chunky 12V feed thru the centre console for the cigar lighter. If you can trace that back I'm sure it will pass through roughly the area you want.

How about the back of the HU? Easy peasy access :D

Teeny-weeny wire though.

I'd probably blow the fuse.

Nonsense. It's a gauge you're trying to run of it... not a fridge :P

It's three electoluminecant (spell) gauges with electronic senders that I'm running. The fridge is off the same circuit as the powershower :D

If it's that serious, run your own separate feed direct from the battery?

I'm a mechanical engineer and wires scare me. The easier the better.

Whats the Amp rating on them?

  • Author

Dunno. I'll find out as well as the resistance per metre of the feed wires. As long as everthing is within the fuse rating of the feed I choose I should be ok.

I think I've answered my own question :D

Job done, thread closed ;)

are you usein water temp gauge if so were do you put the sender

My god, what an old thread.

I used headlight switch wiring as it meant the guage comes on when the headlights are turned on.

I've bought an 8 way spade fusebox that will be fed direct from the battery, with a relay incorporting the head unit remote switch on so I can have them permenant/ignition live as desired.

Won't be for running guages, but for Originb2, sat nav, iPOD interface, handsfree kit etc.
