squeak from rad when shut doors

Featured Replies

help..... ovet the last 6 months my 54 reg octavia vrs has developed an annoying squeak when i close doors or go over speed bumps. the noise is less after rain. i have sourced the speak to the bottom right of the radiator and have sprayed wd40 without success. can anyone tell me what this is and how it can be fixed. also is there a quick fix as i am trying to sell the car and dont want to spend money on if i dont need too. ????

screw it back in, its a common problem buddy, mine did the same!

Needs new rad mounts but a few members have wedged rubber between the radiator and cross member as a temporary fix HTH

Why would you do that when you can just re screw it?

I thought when the rubber mounts gave up they needed replacing, wasn't aware that it could just be screwed tight.

Ya I took mine to Skoda and they said we shall screw them in for 20 notes i said no thanks and screwed them in myself, also my friend had the same issue and screwed his back in

I got mine changed under warranty on my old car :)

Loosen the mounts, lift the radiator as much as you can, and tighten them again with the rad still held up. You may need an assistant, although I managed to do the top one while pulling up, then the bottom one can be done at leisure.

I tried rubber under the rad, but that doesn't really solve the problem. The above fix worked for at least 20000 miles, though.

just had a quick look, found the mounts, the rad looks to have dropped at one end so ill try the rubber under the rad. if that doesnt work ill lift the rad and retighten.

thanks again

Ive got a squeak when I close the door. I thought it was the exhaust or even the susspension. I didnt even think about the possibility of it being rad mounts.

Sounds like its a big job. Does it do any harm if you just leave it?

Looks like i'll be checking this out when the rain finally stops

It's not that much of a big job really. I did mine the other weekend and was surprised how smoothly it went!

-Pop the bumper off, nothing tricky, just a matter of removing a bunch of screws and 4 bolts.

-Whip the headlights out, easy.

-Take all 8 bolts out from the bushes, and then have fun wangling the rad about to pop them off!

-Fumbling around with the rad and trying to get all four bushes off and on again takes a bit of patience, but they will go. You just have to wangle it around a bit!

-Put it all back together and job done!

No need to jack the car up, and no need to remove the front wheels.
