rear whels bearings

Featured Replies

Good morning all,

i have changed the rear brake shoes on my felly a month ago and i have noticed lately that there is a bearing noise from one of the rear wheels.

I checked them this morning and the bearing was shredded totally although it was ok when i changed the brakes and i had regreased then with bearing grease.

What is the cause for that? maybe i tightened the wheel nut too much?? and if this is the cause, how can i guess the right amount to tighten the bolt?

please help, its urgent

The nut should only be hand tight. I think the official procedure is something along the lines of tightening it up quite a bit while rotating the drum anti-clockwise, then slacken it off, then do up hand tight. The washer behind the nut should be moveable with a screwdriver. You also check afterwards for any play by rocking the wheel at 9 and 3 o clock, and also 12 and 6 o clock.

I would highly recommend checking the bearing adjustment again after a few hundred miles (using the moving the wheel side to side procedure) as both mine loosened up and needed adjusting again later after I had changed them.

Another possibility is some foreign matter or grit got in there.
