Did a search and couldn't find anything about what the average age of us Mk1 drivers are. I sometimes feel pretty young (24) in comparison to some of the people I see driving Skodas, but then I do see a few vRS's driven by people around my age.

So...I put it to you....what's the average age of us all...and more importantly, Am I already slipping into middle age?!

im 25 and yeah i think its a middle age thing cause i still get the **** taken out of me for having one! but i love the car hate small cars like fiestas and clio's, but i dont see many octy's round benfleet so maybe im the only one

i'm surprised to see so many young folk. I'm in the 25-34 bracket but its probably worth considering that a lot of the 'old farts' driving skodas probably couldn't spell internet never mind use it and vote on the poll, so your sample will have skewed results. Nonetheless, a good measure of the age of folk using briskoda :D

PS, all my mates think i drive an old mans car, yet none of them have anything negative to say about the VW passat tdi i'm buying from my father soon? Something to do with the badge i guess :thumbdwn:

Silly isn't it?! Thankfully I'm not the only one in my group of friends to have one. Another mate has a Mk2 2.0 TDi and loves it. My reasoning for getting the vRS was that is was a bit of fun but also had space for me to fit tonnes of stuff in and the possibility of towing (that's the fun bit.....I should be towing a race car next year!).

i owned one between ages of 25-27 it replaced my audi a4 avant, i'd say the most 'old man'ish car was my vauxhall omega i bought at 22.

i wouldn't worry about owning a certain car at any age, its what you like that counts.

What is this internet thingy you are on about ;)?

JT - Early retired :), final salary pension scheme :D, new Octavia Elegance Estate + luxury pack + front sensors due 1st Sept .

All the old farts have Superbs or Fabia estates.

I bought my Octy VRS when i turned 20, its alot of car for the money and simply better then my friends saxos, astra that type of thing.

51 this year. The vRS was part of my mid-life crisis :D

26 - bought the car 3 years ago

Im not that surprised really.

If you are sensible, smart and an enthusiast then the skoda is a fantastic buy and certainly within budget of many people of this age.

You could do a lot worse if your a chav **** eg corsa's, saxo's etc etc etc and you get so much more for your money!

Forget the badge and look at what you get.

I'm 26 and bought the car earlier this year.

I already had an "old man" car before, a Rover 400 :o. Before that was my chav period with a 1.6 Fiesta

My mates give me stick for having what they see as a "taxi" but most of them are still running around in finance Clios and Corsas

I thought they tended to drive Fabia VRS's :P

Good point. It is precisely why I brought mine really, and I couldn't give a crap about what people think of the badge. If I wanted to pose I'd get an ASBO or something like that and it's also much more fun being stealthy and mistaken for the police! LOL

Had my mk1 from 33-37, now 38 and driving a mk2.

The mk1 was bought as a direct competitor of a Pug 406 / VW Passat / Ford Mondeo.

I am 32 and have had my mK1 Octy for 5 months now and love it, Before i had an astra, escort, metro and the worst car for me was a vectra that took £2500 in repair bills over a 2 year spell.

People say to me that dont know about cars....oh my god why did you buy a skoda....Little do they know its better built than your average saxo, corsa, escort, nova etc.

To be honest i never would of thought i would own a skoda 15 years ago but they have really improved over the years and the cost to own is very reasonable.

You never know in another 5 years Lada may be making a come back (you never know :))

Just turned 46, and bought the Octy because it was the only thing I could find that ticked all the boxes I wanted, including the "see the bonnet from the driving seat" one.

However, I'd think that most people who saw me driving down a twisty but quiet A would think I was younger than I am!

I am one of the 'Old Farts' you refer to aged 73 years of age who drives a Skoda Octavia, done more miles than most of you young uns.

My thoughts are:- If you are in that much of a hurry you should have left the day before.

Mine are that, since you're clearly not in a hurry, it will cost you nothing to show some consideration, and pull over to let me past! ;)

Oi my old man has a Fabia estate.....hmmm actually I see your point. I hate following him anywhere as he is so slow and on numerous times I've told him Skoda are trying to lose the image of him driving one of thier cars

I'm 23 and recently bought an Octavia, although I have wanted one since I was about 20 - just couldn't afford it! I don't count it as an old mans car - even in standard shape. Someone at work said it looked too big for me though lol!

more qualifications don't make better drivers, the amount of ignorant hateful useless drivers i come across that are so called professional drivers(police, taxi's, bus drivers, lorry drivers etc etc). i feel the most dangerous drivers on the road are the ones that don't seem to take any notice of their environment, personally i think the man thrashing off the line and cutting people up but knowing he is doing it is far safer than the old biddy wondering around between lanes at 20% under the limit, never indicating and telling everyone how she has never had a crash.

back on topic i am now 27 and bought my octavia 4x4 when i was 22 :)

Similar to Bengie,

Got mine brand new (52 plate) when I was 22, now 28.

hi

i got mine at 24 im now 25, i get all the old man jokes but not bothered i love the car to bits, i wish i could have got 1 earlier its cool, no one knows much about them and are often shocked , which is also good

Got my Mk1 last september at 28,im now 29

Best car iv owned to date, absolutely love it

Fell head over heels for the Mk2 way before even considering a skoda, but knew i couldn't afford one

Then i test drove the Mk1 and had to have it,imo it looks more butch than a Mk2 too

And i love the fact how people hate it coz its a skoda ,i know its weird but every time i get in it i feel like im driving the best car ever, and peoples faces when they get overtaken ... i love that bit

It gets a lot of attention aswel,so people i think like them more than they let on,they just dont want to tarnish there so called image so their never going to know what one is like

I love mine
