1.4 tdi 80 engine oil?

Featured Replies

Hi, my estate is due to arrive in a week or two and I was wondering what grade of engine oil is used so I can price up a litre for just in case. Also whether the oil is synthetic or mineral etc would be brill.

Thanks in advance.

Enjoy your car when it arrrives, get the dealer to "give" you a top up kit, nice bag with gloves and funnel in.

Oil is fully synthetic so see running in guide on here. Do a search.

Warning!

Didn't think Castrol Magnatec was suitable for the PD engine?

Check this out and if its not get them to drain it out sharpish.

*** Its not suitable, just checked on Opie Oils site. PD engine requires oil to the 505 01 standard. Castrol Magnatec is to 505 00. ***

OK, well thanks for scaring the life out of me

I have just called skoda on 08457 745 745 and asked what oil is suitable for the skoda fabia II 1.4tdi. They informed me the three following oils are suitable. Please note, i did not tell them which oil i have.

507 00

505 00

505 01

So, it is suitable.

( i had never heard of oil being referred to as this ever, ive learnt something new)

505.00 is not suitable for a PD engine.

I think you misheard or was misquoted

should be

507.00

506.01

505.01

505.00 will not protect the camshaft from wear. Due to the PD head design, the cam contact area on the injector units and valves is very small and oil with a high shear additive (similar to EP oil in gearbox) is required. Once the oil film is compromised, metal to metal contact chews through the hardening and the end is nigh........

When the PD engine first appeared it was very common for dealers to quote the wrong oil for it.

Ok guys, thakyou for your help, but do you have any official skoda documentation quoting this.

I did not mishear what the person quoted.

It should be in your handbook. It is in mine.

The handbook says it is only correct at the time of printing as oil grades change.

The castrol site recommends the following for the fabia II 1.4tdi EDGE 5W-30, however it also says the below.

http://www.castrol.com/castrol/iframe.do?categoryId=9024084&contentId=7044829

Additional for model year 2000 onward only; using EO VWG 503.00/503.01/505.01/506.00/506.01,

currently approved products are either 0W-X, 5W-X or 10W-X according to requirements of each specification (must not be used in earlier models)

Not sure exactly what that means, however i will attempt to get it in writing from skoda. When i spoke to the the official call centre, they said it was ok.

If they were using magnatec for some reason I'd prefer the one designed for derv engines.

If your handbook says VW 505.1 or VW507 then I'd use one of them.
