Stoner needs a wiser head on such young shoulders. A little more patience and a calmer attitude methinks.

Alas I think you have hit the nail on the head.

Think back a couple of years & I seem to remember a similar sort of Stoner, coincidence, perhaps not.

I do think that The Doctor will deservedly win this years championship, but agree that a little closer racing would be better. (Just like USA :rofl:).

Re Rossi and Stoner

There was mention that whereas Rossi always does most of his practice testing on track tyres, Stoner puts in plenty on qualifiers (mention too that perhaps this was to out-psyche / worry Rossi).

Also, traditionally, Rossi has mostly stuck with harder tyres front and rear as he knows they won't go off as quickly - or at least this used to be the case when he was on Michelins.

And, please, please, please, I hope they don't go to a 1-tyre for 2009. We all know what happens with monopolies (not the game, Lance :P). To be fair to Michelin today's results were more than respectable with the 2nd and 4th placings.

Ah well, I see I was right about Edwards going backwards all weekend!! ;)

Is there anything much more fun than seeing the Whiner landing in the kitty litter again?

Lance, I was dissapointed by the Old Firm game too, because I wanted a draw, so Killie could stay top for a week. I support tham as much as I do any Chavball team, because my great grandfather played for them back in the day.

Not heard this and not sure that I agree that this is true.

I watched qualifying on Saturday (actually watch most qualifying sessions) and the commentators were saying that it took Rossi 2 qualifyers to better Stoners race tyre time. The fact that Stoner then went around a second quicker than his previous best would suggest a change in tyre. This time difference is evident each week, therefore suggesting that Stoner puts qualifyers in very late in the session.

I think it was Stavros, who is usually reliable, and what he said was that, "if you have 'hard, medium and soft race tyres', Vale does practice on the tyres, say hard front with medium rear, that he expects to use for the race, and Stoner tries to out-psyche everyone by doing P1 and P2 (and maybe P3) on softs, rather than sorting out his race setup."

I'll be heading up to Glasgow over the next couple of months to see Celtic play at home. Been a fan since I can remember but never seen them play and thought that if I'm going to then it's got to be at Celtic Park. BTW, when did Parkhead become Celtic Park.

Cheers

Lance

I think Parkhead became "Celtic Park" because Ibrox (the stadium) should be "Ibrox Park" to distinguish it from Ibrox (the district), and "Parkhead Park" is just plain silly!

To be honest, I don't blame Stoner for going all out as he will only have a chance of winning the championship if he wins just about all the remaining races. I think he would rather fall off at this point of the season than to come second in the race to Rossi.

I think he also would prefer not to have a tussle with Rossi, who we all know to be the master of overtaking!

He took the risk to push for a win and keep the gap to Rossi but he was obviously too close to the limit. It's great to see Stoner ride like he does and lets face it, if there is no Stoner I think Rossi would have it too easy.....

I pretty much agree. That said, part of Vale's charm is that, even though he could let Whiner win the remaining 5 races, cruise home 3rd, and still take the title, he won't! :D

I think what we are seeing is Stoner is under ALOT more pressure from Rossi than he has ever been. Last year its known that Yamaha didnt have the bike Rossi wanted to close the gap on the Ducati. This year is a different story, Rossi can consistently match Stoners opening lap times and this i'd say imho is whats rattling Stoner. Last year he got used to going hell for leather as soon as the lights went out, knowing that if he got a reasonable gap on Rossi, it would be impossible for him to catch.

This year, Yamaha have 'up'd' there game, thus letting Rossi match him in the opening laps?? Rossi has said it in the past, if he gets in front of Stoner, he can upset his rythm. When Stoner gets into his rythm, with a decent lead WITHOUT pressure, i think he is unstoppable. However, give him a Pitboard every lap with no increase in the gap (after hes been trying his utmost hardest to make one) and i think he panicks a bit. Maybe he sees 'P1, +2.9 Rossi' every lap and thinks "must try harder", then before he knows it, hes over stepped the limit??

I'm sure after it happening 3 times now, it wont happen again? Like others have already stated, i like edge of the seat, nail biting, sweating like hell kind of racing!!

Bring on Indianapolis (spelling??:()

Just my 2p worth!

Rossi has the experience to know that 1 or 2 tenths a lap is sufficient to steadily catch the man in front or to further extend an advantage, Stoner appears to go for a second or two a lap, every lap.

Just back after being away for 2 weeks in Spain (read Rossi's book what if I never tried it, bought it about 2 years ago).

Was really looking forward to a nail biter but Stoner done it again, unbelievable.

Very true, although Rossi was also the same in the early days of each class, just finding the limits. But bloody hell Stoner can really hang that Ducati out very impressively.

New Fiat Yamaha added to my collection :)

yes, I agree on the early days point but Rossi never did it after he'd won a championship.:D

Oh & yes Stoner can ring something special out of the Duke.
