Earliest I should have my 20K service done?

Featured Replies

My VRS is has currently done 18,000 miles so its due it's 20k service very shortly. I was wondering what the earliest I should get this service done is? Would 19,000 be ok? Only reason I ask is because I want a few little niggles sorting out ASAP and don't want to have the inconvenience of having it in the garrage twice.

BTW I have been quoted £199 for a 20K service at my local Skoda dealer. Is this reasonable? I seem to think so after making a few calls round other dealers and being quoted up to £250!

Cheers,

Alex

20k is a limit not a target, so either of the above will do. Mine gets a '10k' service at 6months and a '20k' at 12 months, even though that's probably more like 7k and 14k... £200 is about right for main dealer prices, BTW!

Folks,

Looking for a bit of advice on the cost of servicing.

I bought my Fab vrs at 7k miles from a main dealer who serviced the car before I picked it up.

I then had it serviced by DM Keith in Leeds at 17k miles 8 months later (Oct 07) and it cost £145. I don't know what type of service it was, as in fairness I was a bit slack on that front. I just dropped it off and said "service please" and they did the rest.

Its now done 27k miles so planning on having it serviced next week. Called to book it in and they said "which service do you want? 40k miles service which will be £250+, or an annual service which will be £150".

Can anyone advise on that the difference will be, and what you get for your extra 100 nicker? I'm ok paying the extra if you get something tabgible for it, but could do with knowing what that is!

Cheers

Tells you in the service log whats done at each. Probably just filter changes etc. as well as fluid changes

I've got the book with me as I'm due my 20 now as well

Engine Oil change is due after 15,000 km (9,320 miles) or a year, whichever sooner

- change oil, check brakes, fuel filter, reset service indicator (and if you're lucky, a quick wash)

Annual inspection after 30k Km or a year, whichever sooner.

- this is the engine oil change above, plus a whole big list of things being inspected

  • 2 weeks later...

I've been quoted £214.95 inc VAT @ DM Keiths for my Fabia vRS, & they say that they recommend a Brake Fuid change too @ £45..

So thats £260 for a service!!!! sod that I'm thinking, going to ring round - try a few VW garages too, and also try my local garage to see wat they will charge if i take down the service checklist for them.

I did ask what do i get for my money to the women on the phone, but she just kept saying she didn't have the sheet to hand....all's i got was they change the oil and pollen filters then do a few other checks, sounds an absolute bargain to me!! NOT!!!!!!!

Ps..This is for my second service aka 2 years / 20,000miles.

The dealers are always going to be expensive. My 20k service was quoted at £310.00. My local garage did it for £170.

Even if your car is under warranty, Skoda still have to honour it if you get it serviced elsewhere. You don't even have to use genuine parts anymore. As long as the parts used are to the same specification it's fine to use them. For example, i had Fram oil and pollen filters instead of VW ones.

Until the dealers become more competitive now that the market is wide open, i shall stay away and reap the massive savings.

if i realised this i wouldnt have bothered going back to skoda as i thought i had to for the 20k variable and warranty. will certainly shop around for the next one then!! btw mine was 233 quid.

I had my 20k service done at the dealers, it was less than £200.
