Is cracked foglight an MOT failure?

Featured Replies

Our Fabia VRS has a crack running across middle of lens of the RH front foglight. No holes, no water/condensation inside and the light works fine. But will this cause it to fail its MOT this month ?

I know they can be quite strict on these things. But I dont want to take the bumper off and replace a light that is hardly ever used for nothing.

Front fog lights are not a testable item m8,

Phil (mot tester)

I can also verify that it shouldn't affect MOT...... Well put it this way The mrs' vRS just got MOT'd with a crack all the way across one of the front foglights and passed.

Cheers

Dave.

so is a rear fog a testable item??

Big thanks guys. as always at Briskoda

no to front yes to rear (if fitted)

As it was explained to me some years ago, fronts aren't testable (but can still fail if they create a dangerous projection or sharp edge), but rears are because they're mandatory lights.

no to front yes to rear (if fitted)

Rear has to be fitted or the car can't run in the UK. HTH

My rear light cluster has developed a very annoying habit of steaming up, meaning it's leaked. a) I assume this is an MOT failure, B) I assume I can solve the problem by taping some silica gel inside the unit? :D

In principle yes, but you might get away with leaving your lights on whenever possible.

My mothers front drivers side fog has had a hole about 40mm diameter broken through the front glass for about two years now. Has passed two MOT's with it like that. Definitely not a testable item.

Dry it out with a hairdryer immediately before the MOT if you are worried that it might not pass.
