y reg octavia estate trying to start with no ignition

Featured Replies

Hi,

Got woken at 5am by neighbour to say car was turning over!

It would turn over by itself for 3-4 turns, have a rest for a minute, then do it again.

It is parked on a steep slope with front pointing upwards, so i am thinking that water has got in somewhere, but not sure where at the moment.

I have disconnected the battery at the moment.

Has anyone else had this, or heard of this weird problem?

Thanks in advance

Paul

That is not good..... at least it was not in gear!

How are the carpets? Any dampess? Maybe the uphill direction of the car has encouraged some water into the cabin somewhere.

Handy if you loose your keys though ;)

Carpet was wet, back passenger carpet drivers side could have supported goldfish!

the water came down the bonnet cable hole and guess what's directly below that?

All the important relays. Fusebox was dry.

relays soaked, so it was remove them all and get the hair drier out.

Car is now parked on more level ground.

Beware!

Do not reverse park down a steep driveway else you may suffer the same fate.

i would suggest maybe a bit of silicon sealant around the bonnet cable hole to help prevent more water appearing....

If the rear passenger side was wet too, I would check the gromet near to the pollen filter too.

I have sealed that area with silicon this morning but i have not checked the grommet near the pollen filter.

Thanks for that.

just realised, the water was in the passenger back behind the driver.

Sorry, misled you a bit there.

probably ingress from the bonnet release which you have resealed then.

never heard anything like that, will be asking around but really interested to know WTF

How was the water getting round the immobiliser?

How was the water getting round the immobiliser?

it wasnt thats why it only turned over and didnt start.

the engine will turn over if you have a immobiliser but it wont catch. had a fabia that the passive chip went wrong in the key, the dash used to flash up error and just turn over. new chip and it wad fine.

lucky escape but the sounds of things, mine would have walked itself into the gate as i leave mine in gear! lol

I'm used to diesels, where the immobiliser disables the starter motor.
