Need a heavier Polish.

Featured Replies

I know AutoPaint Pro stock the Hand Glaze, I heard about it before. The 3M stuff tends to be used more in the car repair/bodyshop industry and you're right, you don't see it stocked in the 'usual' places:

1L 3M 05990 Imperial Hand Glaze

Not sure about tracking down the Rubbing Compound though...

I swear by 3M ultra fine rubbing compound (to cut) followed by 3M Imperial hand glaze (to conceal). It's just so hard to find a stockist...

Using the Ultra Fine myself at the moment and it's a good polish, I am sure on a rotary the cut is a lot better with the Ultra Fine.........

on the rotary i use the ultrafina as a lubricant to the cutting compound it keeps the cutting action going by helping the mix not dry out. if you use fast cut or fine cut on there own, gets a bit dry.

and you only get 1 pass or 2 topps before its too dry. i also try to only run the rotary with 3m products at 900 , maybe 1200 topps as the 3m pads generate alot of heat. i like the 3m products though

Jonny. The DC5 is great, dont miss my fabia or subaru at all.

although the police can hear 9000 revs from dalgety bay in Alloa. lol

Well so far i've not done anymore to the car...it's absolutely filthy at the moment after being up at the farm 3 times this week.

In fact, there's that much mud on the inside of the wheels that it's thrown the wheel balance.

So that means i've still got the wax holograms on it....

Not sure i'll even bother finishing it now it's looking awful where i've been over it !

if youre loosing the will with it mate, ill have a look at it if you want.

not this weekend though , as we have a couple of cars booked in.

Cheers Andrew.

But to be honest, i'd better finish it, as i've spent enough already on getting all the kit, i probably should've just got you to do it in the first place !!!

just be patient mate. it will be ok, strip the whole car again with neat apc or strong fairy liquid wash. Then dry it all up.

Run the pc over the car with a sealant on speed 3/4.

make sure the finnish is refined and nice and clean to the touch.

then wax away. nice big long straight drags on an applicator pad. (no swirly movements) . with collonite, dont do it in the sun and do one panel and whilst that panel cures do another and buff off (with a microfibre). if its to hot or dry, you will get hollogramming.

hope thats ok.

p.s. i found some dog SH*&^*&^ in the boot of the honda, so i removed the whole interior. angry wasnt the word:rofl:

MMm....suce a nice gift to leave the new owner eh ?

Thanks for the advice.

So if i strip the wax, should i just run over it again with my menz FF ?

You can do that no problem, but you will have very little protection, FF is more of a compuond polish used for fine cutting but doesnt leave much in the way of sealant, ideally you would want to run a wax coat or a regular sealing coat over FF.

Sorry, i meant after stripping the 476, should i run over it again with FF before re-applying the 476.

If you are happy with the finish then no real reason to. However depending on how you strip the wax (APC etc.) then you may want to cleanse your panels first to make sure its all gone. A coat of FF would do that or something along the lines of limeprime or similar.

not this weekend though , as we have a couple of cars booked in.

Cheers

Slightly off topic but do you do this for a hobby or full time?
