MFD3 - Columbus installed into my octy

Featured Replies

The other thing I might need to sort is the diversity antenna. Whilst the radio is fine and everything works including TMC, station list etc. I have a problem where I drive to work through the Hatfield Tunnel everyday, after I exit the tunnel I have no radio reception and have to flip between stations to get it back again. I guess whats happening is that its switching to the otehr antenna to try and get some reception except nothings connected to it.

Stu knows, I've been looking at this for a while:rolleyes: I've got a different tailgate loom to try (well i've had it for weeks, but...) as soon as I get half a day spare from work or SWMBO!

My only worry is that everytime I think I have got the last piece I need, I find there is another piece of loom to change!

In total I've now needed 3 different looms, but I'm hoping this one is the last!!!

If we get a dry day this weekend I might map out the connections before I totally strip the rear of the car again, if not I'll have to wait another week. Will keep you all posted though as soon as I know more!

Been busy this morning,

Updated the maps on mine from V2 to V3, so I now have 5 digit postcode entry. I have also updated the firmware to version 1020 from 1002. Not bad considering its not even 8am yet.

I wonder what bug fixes/updates are in this version of the firmware.

I'll look at the phone issue tomorrow at some point, although it looks like it should be a simple fix (Thanks Stu).

It's all coming together now then mate, nice one.

I have a small problem with GPS and position,

Since the firmware/map update the positioning is slightly out, eg. I drive over a road bridge but the map has not got there yet, maybe about 20-30 feet out. Nothing major in the scheme of things but when navigating a small roundabout she gets all confused because you have appear to have turned the wrong way initially. Can your position on the map be calibrated as it could on the MFD2?.

Have you tried a full reset Manny? Using the 3 buttons along the top.

Also there is the secret menu which may have something to tweak.

Did you get the wire?

Stu

Wire arrived this morning, thanks for that.

I have tried a full reset, and looking at the vwnavi forum I found a post with the same problem. Reading through that it looks like one possibility is the positioning data of the roads on the V3 maps.

If I pull upto a junction and stop, the Nav doesnt think I have got there yet and places me about 20-30ft from the junction.

Maybe it will learn over time, then again I will need to disconnect the power from the unit tomorrow to fix the phone.

Looking at the pin layout for the Columbus it looks like I will only get audio from the right speakers with the nokia kit, because the MFD3 has a phone L and phone R input for stereo phone kits. Still better than nothing unless I can loop the pins together. as per the image below.

Nearly there now, phone kit is now working correctly. Just diversity and the slight nav issue to now resolve.

Is there a possibility to calibrate your location like in MFD2?

My MFD2 was not updating the screen accurately at first but when I did the calibration a few times it started to work very well. And now it's very accurate.

I am guessing that the unit is self calibrating and just needs some time to adapt to the new maps. I found a site that suggests driving for around 30 mins on different types of roads should do it. Today I did a system reset of the navigation module, so I'll see what happens over the next few days.

Mannyo, fitted my MFD3 this afternoon - got it from the same supplier as you. Paid for the "upgraded - trackable" postage and had it within 5 days for under £700 all in! All went well, ish... I no longer get an am signal! I connected the aerial to the inner of the two sockets which I am now guessing is the diversity input and not the outer socket. If I am brave enough to take the dash trim off again, will try and swap it tomorrow...

I think I also have version 2 of the maps... Where did you get your version 3 from!?!?!

Finally, I don't have any instructions, when you say you did a system reset are you referring to the "factory reset" within the setup menus?!?

I think you'll be better leaving the antenna connected to the inner one of the connectors, I have tried both and prefer the inner but then again I don't use AM.

You want the inner connection, if you swap to the other one AM will work but you will lose TMC, the Station list and FM reception will be poor. The only way to get AM/FM together properly is to fit a second aerial to the other input. This is being worked on at the moment by someone on here, as quiet a lot of work is involved to fit the diversity aerial. Someone else has fitted an aftermarket winscreen mount aerial to the second input though.

Sorry, yes I meant factory reset. I went into this option and selected the navigation options and hit ok.

I have the Skoda instruction manual in a PDF here although the quality isnt that great.

You can force a reboot by using three of the top buttons -

The radio no longer self seeks when on Radio 1 for example and you lose the station list but the traffic info still works.

I know as this is how mine is connected at the moment.;)

Thanks guys... I think Stu's point is the most valid. The reality is, I only occasionally listen to five live so I will stick with the inner!!!

As well as the maps, where do you get hold of the latest firmware!?!? I found a .pdf of a VW user manual so thats a start!

Be very, very careful with the FW update, get it wrong and you'll end up with a rather expensive door stop.

Diversity Antenne Radioadapter AUDI RNS-E FAKRA NEU on eBay, also Herstellernavigationssysteme, Einbau-Navigationssysteme, Auto-Hi-Fi Navigation, Auto Motorrad Teile (end time 15-Sep-08 08:59:37 BST)

For the aerial, I may get one of these to try.

For the firmware, there is a thread with links to a nero image file over on vwnavi.com

How to Update RNS510 New Firmware 1020/2022 with Photos - VWnavi.com

As ever, flashing the firmware is risky in just the same was as flashing the bios on a home computer so its done at your risk. Mine worked fine, you must leave the unit alone for 1hr after starting the process so make sure you dont need to start the car in that time as that will screwup the flash. Depending on the F/W version currently running you may lose the map data, so make sure you have a map disk handy. My maps were ok, and I went from FW version 1002.

What you got planend for that adaptor then Manny?

Not sure, but at least it gives the option of adding another aerial.

I wonder if its possible to buy one of those ribbon type aerials and hide it within the dash somehow, and connect it to the hu.

Hello to all,

I am from austria and purchased also an Columbus and changed it instead an Stream Radio.

I think that I have made an mistakr to buy this Colombus.

It´s an 3T0 035 680 HW:03 SW:0804 for new superb.

The Navi itself works very fine, but my multi sterring wheel want work with the navi. No volume, no arrow, no telephone button works.

Is it sure that this navi works only for Superb and not for Octavia?

Has somewhere also an 3T0 and works perfect?

Sorry for my english.

Regards

Bergi0, I am not sure, I guess that the superbII may use a variation of the can protocol that the octy uses.

I have heard that the 3T unit doesn't work propely with the Octavia II however I have not tried myself. There is one bit of the long coding that you could look at in VCDS which mentions BAP protocol, it may be worth looking at that.

Should be this BAP protocol on or off?

I think now it´s off, but I must take an look later.

As I know there is a newer software SW: 0904 available, maybe thisone solve also this problem.

Knows someone where I can get them?

Regards

I'm only real ly guessing to be honest, try changing the BAP protocol to on.

Hello VRStu,

I change it to BAP, but ****, it doesn´t work.

Any other idea?

I ask a guy who sell also an 3T0 035 680 in Ebay, and he promise that thisone will work in Octavia 100%. Thoseone have sw: 0904.

Do you know where I can get the newest software?

I will be thankful for each help.

Regards
