That old chestnut - Yellow or Black...

Featured Replies

Not owning a vRS, in the past I have stood on the side lines and watched the on going bickering between the Yellow and Black fractions with mild amusement. I guess I always assumed that the "black beast", although more conservative - was the "classic" finish (I'm talking style not equipment here).

However...

I saw my first Yellow vRS this morning and what a cheeky little monkey it was. As I walked passed, it jumped up in front of me and tickled my balls like a sexy (but not slutty) little minx.

Lets just say, it certanly got my attention.

I have one question though, how does Yellow hold its value against the Black ?

Or in this instance, does the colour have no great effect either way ?

Just wondering...

Hey, don't we have any silver or red factions?

Are we so happy and secure that we can't join in the bickering?

Anyway, both colours are very nice. The RS looks very good in black but it's hard to keep clean.

The Yellow looks better in the metal than it does in pictures.

As for re-sale, I'd guess black is probably slightly better (but then it does cost more to start-with).

Freakcrab.

Red RS Faction.

Rally-red sub-division.

I always preferred (metallic) dark green myself....

I can't say from looking at prices of secondhand RSs there is any real difference. Obviously, I prefer the Yellow but would say that the Black is likely to appeal to more people - hence could have an effect on resale speed, even if actual price doesn't differ.

One plus on the yellow that I didn't realise until I got it is that it doesn't really show up the dirt too badly - from afar it still looks clean even when very dirty ..... major bonus for a lazy git like me!

I've always been a fan of silver generally on cars, but I reckon that yellow, for me at least, has always been associated with sporty cars, which is why those cupras are common in yellow - and I've seen yellow 911s. So if I saw a yellow Octy, I would assume it was a sporty RS, and not one of the basic engines. I do think black is a bit more "executive" if that's a proper description, although Dad's Accord is black with nice alloys/spoiler and I couldn't call it that. You can't place me in any colour "faction" then. I just like some colours more than most. If I HAD to choose yellow over black..... after some thought, I'd have to go black. (sorry to you yellow fans)

Having had my black vRS for about six months now, I can tell you a couple of things. Firstly, it's a nightmare to keep clean. Every time it rains, a noticable sheen of dirt obscures the paintwork. Secondly, every little chip and scratch shows up like a ******. I've picked up four small scratches, a nasty scrape and a stonechip on my spoiler and one one of my wheels. When I get paid this month, I'm going to call Chipsaway out. Dreading to know how much it's going to cost!

However, when it's just been washed, it looks fantastic. If I knew what I know now when I bought the car, I'd have still gone for black, but silver would have been far more tempting.

I'm coming round to yellow, but of the four colours available, it's still my least favourite.

When at my dealers the other day, he was telling me that when they first opened they had a yellow nearly new RS on the forecourt and couldn't shift it for love nor' money! Ended up selling it at a

Great! That will really enhance my 4x4 badge's street cred! :D;)

I was going to get a black one but then saw a couple of yellow ones around and changed my mind. Yellow is more eye catching and loud whereas Black is more subtle and menacing. Depends what you want.

Another plus point for Yellow - you'll never lose it in a car park !

Same with Rally Red (but I'm going for Yellow next time - much better)

Rob, I know you don't like yellow cars , and judging by your statement it's a good job the vRS isn't available in more colours as I have a feeling it still might be your least favourite ;) , but it wouldn't do for us all to like the same things - how boring that would be :D

The RS is a great car to drive and continues to please on each drive - when you get an RS he last thing on your mind will be selling it - buy one and enjoy it will continue to give you enioyment on and on.

Some one looking for a sporty car second hand I dont think will be put of by it being yelliow.

All are great colours - Yellow continues to please me and is exclusive to the RS in the Octavia range - Silver is the easiest to keep clean - reds in any car are problem colours after time fade and go matt - time will tell with the latest paints - black looks really smart but shows marks and dirt badly

John

John,

I think you might be mistaken about yellow being exclusive to the RS. I caught up a bright yellow Octavia on the M1 the other day expecting an RS and it wasn't. Where's my brochure...

Rich ,

Don't know what happened there , because yellow is exclusive to the vRS in the Octavia range - as I'm sure John will confirm . Must be someone with taste , and had his Octavia resprayed :D

Or an RS that has had the badges changed for the Q look

The car was brand new but as I drew up to him I could tell from the ride height it wasn't an RS. As I got closer there was a complete lack of all the little bits and bobs that makes us so special (:D). Strange.

I've seen this as well. There's at least one non-RS Octavia in edinburgh on an 02 plate which is yellow.

erm seen a yellow 1.9sd. Of course it might not be yellow per se, a bit like this one?1U2_8Q8Q.jpg

Octavia's in yellow are not a normal option its available in the Fabia only.

Taxi's are yellow in Bournmouth and when I has a ride in a yellow Octavia 1.9SDI the driver stated that they buy them new and then respray the yellow was not quite the same as lemon yellow however.

Cant say whether a special order could be agreed with Skoda I doubt it as when I ordered mine I asked for some of the goodies available to other Countries for the RS and was told no way by Skoda UK even though parts were being fitted to the same car destined for another country on the same production line.

Easter greetings Briskodans,

Weighing in on the great Black and Yellow debate, I am rather pleased to have a silver one. It is a doddle to polish and looks great in sunlight.

I do however think yellow looks wicked and with the flatter type paint (non-metallic) I reckon it will stand up better to knocks and metallic is a bugger to stop stone chips etc

There is a fella in my office who has a yellow standard octy. O2 registered 1.8 I think!!

Well off to polish the beast as the sun is out, whoa I might be taking this too seriously!!!!!!!!:D :drive1: :drive1:

Yellow and not a vRS ....could be an import....thinks.gif

Time to walk the (black with white) dog........dog.gif

As far as the oct vRS goes, i'd have to say yellow, and not just because JaneC has that colour! Definitely a suitable colour...

Not so sure the fabia vRS would look so good in yellow though...

RED RED RED

Yeah, but you're buggered in a red car if the police are playing snooker! :-)

I picked my vRS up on Thursday. Was a little worried about the colour choice, but now i'm glad i did it :)
