Fabia vRS getting hot?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

My slightly modded Fabia VRS has now, on many occassions, seemed to lose all go in 4th gear when driving hard. 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear all pull strongly, but once in 4th it takes an age to get round the revs..... Is it simply down to the outside temp (v hot recently) and the heat build up from driving fast?

Strangely, if I change up to 5th, I have full power again.....

The heat will have an effect, but I would expect to see the problem in all gears.

Hi Mannyo,

Nope - just 4th... If I change 3rd to 5th, no such problems and 4th is fine any other time.

Just when I am really in a hurry, 4th gear go just disappears and if I leave it in 4th with foot to the floor it can take ages to get any acceleration at all.

STRANGE

I havent driven a Fabia so could it be just gearing? are they 6 spd? could 4th be a urban cruising gear?!?! IYSWIM does it drop out of the power band when in 4th? like Manny says heat soak will affect performance in all gears...

Hi Fivepint.

No not gearing. They are 6 speed with well spaced ratios, 3rd drops straight into the meat of the powerband.

The best way I can describe it is as if the the engine just loses about 50 bhp from 3000 - 4000 revs. After that, it picks up nicely again and runs all the way to 5200, or I change up and 5th pulls like a train!

Sure you're not having a problem engaging fourth and it's inadvertantly popping it into sixth. Can you select all the ratios whislt stationary without any problems?

Having the same sort of problems myself with a noticable drop in performance is due to the high temperature at the moment. Ive done a couple of logs this week on intake temps and they are quite scary.

Getting the part numbers tomorrow hopefully for the Ibiza Cupra FMIC which should help to some degree :)

I've noticed that in the first hot weather since I got the Furby that the heat does affect the performance.

All you lot who leave for work early in the mornings will probably notice the difference coming home.

is there a big difference between the pd130 and pd160 intercooler ross?

Yes just a bit..lol.

The 130 is a side mount intercooler. The 160 is a front mounted one about the same size as the radiator.

any chance of getting a 160 IC to fit the 130??

Err yeah thats why im getting the part number sorted tomorrow.

this is the one on the pd160 :D

the standard 130 is less than a qtr of the size and is mounted in the drivers side wheelarch.. if you take the trim from round the foglight youll see just how puny it is ;)

****!! looks like a second bleedin' radiator!!

will it fit in the furby?? doesnt look like it.

should put paid to the problems described on this thread if it fits- how much dya reckon ross?

Why do you think it wont fit the Fabia? There is far more room behind the Fabia front bumper than the Ibiza, and remember the vRS front bumper is a homologation part for the WRC car which has a fooking great FMIC behind it.

Cost I reckon about

spose if i actually looked in there b4 opening me big gob i'd have seen the great expanse of air just waiting for summat to do the job!

cheers ross - but i'll always leave the techie stuff to techie people!

was i right in thinking that the 'hot day phenomenon' would be a bygone with that IC?

I doubt it will be a bygone era with the FMIC on a day as hot as it was today, but it will help alot to be sure.

So folks Im thinking that 160 fmic is out for me but does anyone know who does a fmic pd130/100 side mount intercooler?

Sorry for nit-picking....

FMIC = Front Mount intercooler.

tbh, it wouldnt really be much benifit from getting an uprated side mount intercooler. i think forge may do one but its silly money.... all just to avoid the dreaded heatsoak.

no offence taken colin! got my wires crossed and thought we were talking a fluid cooled intercooler as opposed to air cooled intercooler.....

Dont wanna take this too far OT, but what is heatsoak, and how would it affect both a standard car, and a remapped one?
