New Fabia vRS NOT using oil...

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Well, after 1200 miles of fun in my new Fabia vRS, I have finally had a spare moment to check the oil level... Knowing that the PD130 engine is known to use a bit of oil when running in, I expected to have to top it up..

However...on removing the dipstick (and I checked it 3 times...) it has not used a drop. Within the 'bend' in the dipstick, the level was at the top of the bend, above the lined serrated area, which I understand to mean the level must not be topped up...

Is this unusual?? Anything to worry about?? I have been very careful during the running in period, not exceeding 3000rpm, gradually increasing the revs as 1000 miles approached... And even now, I am still being a bit careful for a couple of hundred miles more...

Any advice??

Cheers.

Darren

Nothing to worry about at all, thats good

A friend with a 130pd Passat used about 1.0 litres in the first thou or so but has now stopped using any noticable oil.

my 1.8T RS is very good never needed any between 0 -20k service with a lot of Autobahn driving and a coule of tracks.

whereas my old 8v 2.0 Octavia did use oil about 1 - 1.5 litre in 10,000miles.

I found it didnt use any when still new, but did need a total of about 1 litre up to 6k, but nothing after that.

The pd130 I have has very similar characteristics to the other VW TDI,s I have had..all have used about 1l up to about 6k miles then nothing.

Check it again at about 4-5k then it will have prob used a bit... otherwise your not driving it properly :D;)

Mine used 1.5 litres in 7,000 miles. It does not seem to be using much, if any now. It didnt change much in the first 1,000 miles though, most of the oil it used was after that when I started driving it properly.

I feel shamed but i have not checked the oil :(

Pbirkett - I presume you've topped with oil in yours? What grade oil you use? Thanks!

Its not unusual...

Mine needed topping up with about .75l in all before the 10k service.

perhaps I drive like a granny. :o
