Driven Mad By Creaky Seat

Well, I did more than a few spirited miles in my conveyance today and all without a creak from my seat.

Sounds like the fix could be permanent.

The only things driving me nuts now are wind noise and tyre roar. ;)

Eureka! I've found a cure. So much for morning light. All hail The Torch and a can of Creak-B-Gone (generic PTFE-enhanced lube spray). Ably assisted by my better-half's shell-like, I traced the cr

  • Any WD40 type spray works fine (sorry we used up all the wise and witty comments back in 2008.... ) Mr Wobblytickle was a one off that's for sure... It does need reapplying from time to time, more

For wind noise, eat less bake beans, regarding the tyre noise, leave the lion brand to the less fortunate :)

I've cut out the beans and, as you rightly predicted, have noticed a fair reduction in wind noise.

In a happy coincidence, that notorious Fabia cabin stench seems to have gone too.

As for the Lion boots, they weren't my choice... the car came shod like that from the, wait for it, Mane Dealer.

Yet more miles and still no return of the creak. :D

Anyone else had similar joys?

Well Mr. W, when I am travelling in my car, I almost become used to the 'creakin' of the old timbers' as I used to mentaly call it, but thanks to your words of wisdom, I 'creak-b-gone'd' and now I have no sound of a ship on the high seas when I move on my seat. There is another infuriating sound I had as well - the rattling bonnet stay. I had passengers searching for the elusive 'clunketty-bunk' on bumpy roads to no avail. Watch out for that one as well.

I'm sorry but i'd just like to say that I love reading your posts, you're sarcastic and dry humour is sometimes a breath of fresh air in this Forum, and thanks for the help with the seat too

Glad the Creak-B-Gone did exactly what it said on the can.

It's just an observation, but considering your predilection for pirate talk (of which I wholeheartedly applaud), perhaps you'd be better scuppering your vRS and plotting a course for a Civic Type-Arrrr!

Sorry.

Re the bonnet stay: did you manage to Clunketty-Bunk-B-Gone it?

Read the quote a couple more times and I'm sure you'll work it out for yourself... ;)

"Re the bonnet stay: did you manage to Clunketty-Bunk-B-Gone it?"

Oh I tried - and a battle it was to find on the shelves too. It was withdrawn due to a possible mercury conent:P. Gave up in the end and used some high density foam around the stay clip.

Oh, and whilst I am really grateful to you for helping me locate the squeaky seat problem, I will warn you that once one creak, squeak, bump or tinkle has been located and expunged, ANOTHER one seems to start up!:( Was it there all along, drowned out by the first noise, or was it just biding it's time until it could be heard and then start up?

Anyway, thank you again Mr Wobblytickle:).

PS. Is that your cheeky hound in your avitar? He made me laugh - got any photos of him?

Well, in that case, might I be so bold as to point you in this direction:

Amazon.ca: Customer Reviews: David Hasselhoff

What we have here are just shy of 1000 reviews, all of them sarcastic/dry/ironic/hatstand, of what is undoubtedly The Hoff's greatest work.

In my opinion, here lies some of the best comedic scribblings on the web.

Note that I doubt not even a single reviewer has actually heard the album.

Any contribution to this superlative body of work must follow three unspoken, but nonetheless Golden Rules.

They are:

1. Say nice things about the album.

2. Never ever call The Hoff by his real name.

3. Always pay special mention to track 6, Hot Shot City, by pointing out how 'particularly good' it really is.

Happy reading.

Oh, I've got at least two reviews in there.

A free Wobblytickle Nipple Mate to anyone who can spot them!

Indeed!

But don't get me started on wind noise, diesel clatter, clicky indicators, tyre roar, tyre squeal, honking horns and sobbing passengers. :grumpy:

As for the cheeky hound gracing my avatar, sadly he does not belong to me.

Can't actually remember where I found him, come to think of it.

Used him as his resemblance to me is rather uncanny.

Crikey you ARE good, even I missed that one!!!

You should be on Top Gear instead of Clarkson.

Just love it :)

Eureka!

I've found a cure.

It's been driving me crazy for weeks.

I'm definitely going to give your ideas a try. Will post back with the results. :)

May the Creak-B-Gone be with you.

Bang! ... and the creak is gone

Word of warning to anyone who decides to remove the front plastic trim panel underneath the seat - It's a bit of a sod to replace as the plastic pegs bend really easily.

Yeah, you're right about those pesky plastic pegs/screwed in bits.

That's why I recommended taking off only the one side of the panel and opening it in a door-like fashion to access the springy bits.

Glad that your maddening creak is no more!

Creaks 0, Creak-B-Gone 4

I only did that as I couldn't work out how to remove the side panel as it appears to be screwed to the seat? In the end, I found you don't need to remove any panels if you push the seat right forwards as far as it will go and lean in under the seat from the back.

Supoib!

I'll add the 'seat forward' option to the Creak-B-Gone guide when I get a mo'.

I came, I squited and the creak -B gone!

1000 thanks mr WT!!

5-0 to CBG!

Had a go at what you suggested and I can only say that your bones must be made of rubber.:)

With the seat fully forward, I swooped in from the rear door and although I just about managed twisting my trunk through 180 degrees, oo-er, and jamming my head as far as I could under the seat, this process brought me no closer to my springy nemesis.

However, attacking the problem from the driver's footwell did indeed enable me to see the rake adjustment spring.

Unfortunately, I found access to said spring less than ideal.

And access to the height adjustment spring was even more limited (if I've picked you up wrong, or there's something I've missed, please let me know).

As it is entirely possible that either or both springs were responsible for the creaks I and others have experienced, I think it crucial both can be liberally and accurately treated with Creak-B-Gone.

The guide has been updated to reflect this.

Evidently I am not THAT good as I missed this one...

Have you got a stenchy cabin?
