Why ruin your car?

Featured Replies

Thought this was because they wanted a rally car based on the Fabia, but by Rally rules it has to be based on a production car and be longer than 4m? I'm sure I read somewhere that Skoda decided to release the VRS and lengthen the bumpers to give them the 7cm (or whatever) extra to get over the 4m mark.

Which is all true, of the Peugeot 206! :P

I plan to fit better dampers to my car, because the standard car is under-damped. I don't plan to lower it, because its height is actually an optical illusion; it's only about 12mm higher wheel to arch than my friends Audi S3. I plan to remap it because I couldn't get a more powerful version when I bought it, and a good remap will make more power than the more powerful version has.

Your one of them people that drives at 40mph on a 60mph limit road in clear conditions but when someone overtakes (when its perfectly clear and safe to do so) at 60mph, you flash your lights at them because you dont think its rite arnt you?

I came back down the M1 last night. Some Hyandi saloon thing in the middle lane doing 60 with all other lanes clear... so, me doing 70 in the outside (couldn't be bothered to concentrate on 90+ that late in the evening).. soooooo.. I planted me foot.. moved over to the inside.. went past and then moved back to the outside.. ...

he flashed me lots.. I didn't get any closer than normal... never been flashed on the motorway before.... maybe the OP owns an Hyandi too?

(sorry.. was a little off topic)..

Rob :-D

I also dont understand why somebody should want to lower their car so that there is virtually no clearance between the tyres and the wheel-arch?

me either!

me either!

Unbelievable... What sort of idiots would contemplate this idea....

having low suspension certainly deters would-be clampers

I wasn't claiming that my driving has improved, I was just trying to say that i find myself concentrating more when on the road with (what I see as) a special fabia. If i'd paid £500 for a beaten up old pug or citroen i wouldn't show so much care and would have, most likely put a few more dents in it by now. Not that i like or do race when i'm in the car but i can certainly tell that the coilovers do make a massive difference to the handling and there have been a few occations where i think if i'd been on standard suspension i would have had a crash. Plus, my car is now mine, the way i want it to be and holds a speciall link with me.

I do agree with modifying and everyone is entitled to their ideas on good mods. Some modify for looks, others for performance or a good mix or both. Personally I like cars that have been modified for performance. I quite like a sleeper.

I do like seeing a car that has been tuned to it's absolute limit but it does come to a point where money becomes an issue and it's gets to the point where you could have bought the car that could do all the modified car could do.

But then again people modify cars to make them unique. There are cars on here that are like no other cars in the world.

I WILL be modifying my vRS but only to my tastes. I will be lowering, I will be upgrading the brakes and the audio. I may or may not remap but that's up to me as I fancy a fast petrol in a few years once my insurance drops and I finish Uni.

However when it comes to young chavs modfying Corsa's and Punto's I'm not so sure. My 1st car was a Mk3 Astra 1.4. I could have modified but I thought instead I'd save for the better car to have a better modifying base to work from. It's only mod was a head unit.

My second car was a VW Polo 1.4. I did plan on doing some mods to this but little things that were wrong with it made me lose confidence in the car so I didn't bother. Now I have the vRS which is a car which have worked hard to get I can now do what I want with it.

However for me the vRS will come to a point where it won't become financially viable to modify further. My vRS will then be perfect for me and when I fancy a change of vehicle I won't feel bad that I've wasted the money. Cars lose money all the time so just modify to the point YOU are happy with and stop.

oh dear i do hope the OP is on the wind up!

it does get on my nerves when people go into a forum and totally slag off a massive portion of the users in one fell sweep. If you are so close minded that you class everyone in a modded car as a danger or a menace then you are blantantly a fool. talk to most on here in a sensible manner and you'll find out why they do it, and for what benefits.

I mod my car because its mine and i can do what i like. ive lowered it, up rated the brakes and modded the looks and the engine. why? well i like my car as standard but i felt that there were certain aspects that needed changing to my tastes. I'd certainly disagree that it makes us a bunch of teenage chavs!

as has been said everyone is different, but 20 fabia vrs's are exactly the same. so unless the 20 people buyign them are identical then i guess they will all have different opinions about if they need modding or not. but to come on generalising about every mod and every person who mods is just moronic.

quite happy for you to come on and say your happy with your vrs and i wont be modding it but dont slate everyone who doesnt think like you eh?

I agree with the first half, but when you say you would have crashed save for your mods, it does kind of indicate that you're driving dangerously. Just don't go hitting anyone!

Hello all.

Thank you for your thoughts.

I'm not against modifying if it makes the car better. For example; I heard about a guy who was thinking of cutting through the front of the driver's side wheel arch to place an air-vent cover there. That would increase the air flow over the turbo intercooler located just in front of the arch. The result would be a more effective cooling of the air delivered to the turbo when one is driving their vRS in a brisk fashion, thus increasing the effectiveness of the intercooler to give more power over sustained periods. This is a carefully considered mod and one perhaps worthy of doing. A sophisticated re-map may also be worthy of doing.

There seem to be alot of people going to great lengths to keep changing the cosmetics of their car. The results are often dire. The vRS will be a bit of a classic in the future. A bit like the Pug 205 GTI. It looks great already. I just wanted to understand the people on here that dont seem to think that.

I dont want to offend anyone. Apart from the Chavs, who will see their efforts next to a standard vRS one day and think 'Christ, what have I done!?'.

But a chav never thinks God what have I done unless they reform.

I often wondered why people overly kit their car but I don't get annoyed over it.

At the end of the day it's their money and their car so they'll do what they like. As long as they pay their road tax, insurance to keep it all legal then we can all laugh at their expense.

We all "tinker" or think about tinkering.

I changed the standard steel wheels on my Astra to alloys (got the alloys free but they needed new tyres) and put my own stereo in.

I thought about alloys on my Felly but in the end just changed the stereo and had some extra speakers fitted.

Not everyone likes extreme modding but just want that individuality to their cars.

*edit* For the chavs who butcher future classics like the Golf Mk2 look online and you'll still see pristine kept originals.

There are those smart few who look after their cars, and subtle mods arent bad either.

looking back at that post of mine it does seem to suggest that i race around. I'd just like to clear up that point and say that although i do drive fast when it is safe and legal, i don't drive around like my hair is on fire the entire time. I'd hate to damage the car or hurt anyone else on the road!

I am young, I had a fabia, I chopped bits off it and stuck other bits on it.

I spent a small fortune on the thing.

But Ill tell you something, Id do it all again!

That car was ballistic! And i miss it. I dont think that makes me a chav because

A) how many chavs do you see that would spend say 10k on a fabia?

B) How many chavs have fabias in the first place

C) its a five door and chavs dont buy five doors (they get given them from their grannys)

D) who gives a flying ****!

I recon I muct be a chav....... I am currently modifing a Volvo! and its a diesel too  :rofl::rofl::rofl:

LONG LIVE THE CHAVS AND THEIR FABIA's  Wish i still had mine :(

my modded fabia has also gone :( was an awesome car i miss it ! not going to do anything to my new one maybe get some bigger astra wheels on it..

not sure a petrol can be chipped?

Petrols can be chipped.

Police chip their Volvo T-5s

Over the years I have spent a fortune modifying cars but can't be arsed now :)

If I want a better car, I will buy one :)

Personally, I enjoy modifying my fabia, as I have all my cars. I spend ages choosing the parts and them fitting them.

I wonder if the OP would consider if they have modified their car without realising. Fitted an air freshener? Got a flat cap on your parcel shelf? To me, these also count as modifications as it is a way of making the car a vehicle that you enjoy spending time in.

Guys, guys, guys………….why all the defensive posting?? The OP has clarified what I thought and said he is NOT against considered modding or anything that improves the breed. He just hates the ridiculous Mods that some people do. You are nearly all safe from his comments…unless you really suspect you are Chavs???:rofl:

I dont want to offend anyone. Apart from the Chavs, who will see their efforts next to a standard vRS one day and think 'Christ, what have I done!?'.

thankfully i'm not a chav but my car looks a little different than a standard one, i've modified every car i've had and i can happily say that i'd drive any of them today and not be embarrased by any change i made to the car, i prefer subtle mods rather than stupid bodykits.

i will always look back at my fabia without regret of anything thats been done to it to make it look the way it does.

Police chip their Volvo T-5s

since when?

since when?

Jon, they have to if they wante to chase the chavvs :)

I'm sure I read it or someone told me that Police get the cars chipped?

I do seem to recall a recent photograph of two cop cars outside a tuners workshop :)

At least one of my mods is ok then. :D

Cheers

Dave.

The yellow one looks nice to me!

I like subtle things like the slim front slitter.

I like it when people do tackfull small mods like i quite fancy removing the doors handles.
