Have to agree with the original poster. Whilst I'm extremely grateful for the technical help I receive on this forum (and I try to contribute my experiences where relevant). The whole forum is rather frustratingly dominated by a bunch of chavvy teenagers. One presumes of a slightly better class than one would find on a Corsa forum, but chavvy teenagers just the same. I really don't understand this whole lowering/noisy exhaust thing that goes on. You'd think the millions of pounds that VW spends on designing cars that they'd get the best compromise of performance/safety/appearance/aerodynamics possible within all the relevant laws that govern vehicle design. Then some spotty 18 year old comes along and just trashes it. What I really don't understand is why the Government doesn't regulate this VERY strictly. What's the point of having laws governing Euro NPAC tests, emissions, noise etc., then allow the arftermarket to p*ss all over them. Loud exhausts should particularly be banned - no point to them what so ever apart from to make up for any lacking in manhood and to really p*ss off anyone else around with the excessive noise. Lots of the other mods on here involve chopping the front bumper about (compromising safety in an accident) and otherwise messing with the suspension which again can compromise handling and cause accidents. When you add the total costs of all this together why don't you all just buy a second hand Porsche or something properly racy instead rather than try and turn an old fart mobile (which the Fabia is) into something its not. Some of the final results - like the earlier photos, just make the occupants look like complete kn*bs, I really can't believe that anyone could ever think that it makes you "cool". I only hope that all the mods on here are properly accounted for with the relevant authorities and insurances. Don't even get me started on those that try to modify a 1.4 mpi or 1.2.......

yes cos cutting a piece of plastic compromises your safety doesn't it,if you don't like the forum don't use it,i have had all the conventionally fast cars(i am not 18 btw) and felt it was time for a change, your arguement is retarded,a 2nd hand porche costs way more than a vrs for everything, tax, insurance, fuel ectyou are quite blatently old, know not a great deal about car mechanicals,so why post drivel like this? A simple i don't personally like these sorts of would have been fine, instead you choose to attack a great many members on this forum with your stupid prejudices,if you had been on here any lenghth of time you would know not insuring properly is considered only slightly more idiotic than your post,to add a little balance, yes those cars pictured are daft, but they are the exception rather than the rule.

If your original statement was correct, then a standard car would beat a moddified one round a track, well having driven both round the same track i can quite honestly say this is not the case.

We are all individuals

One thing thats annoying are the certain peeps that come on here and say " right, just bought a fabia so what have you guys done so i can blaintanly copy your cars" :o

Not really being an individual is it, do what YOU want to do and post pics

Before you ask my VRs is standard coz i have a highly modded golf vr6 :D and i like it that way but maybe one day lol :P

I bought a Fabia vRS and I have done absolutely nothing to it. This is because the car is very good. Colouring in the grille with a marker pen does not make it look better. Nor does cutting holes in the front and applying cheap wire mesh from B&Q. Why take something that is perfectly good and then try your best to make it look like a chav on acid has spent half a day with his deranged 'crew' making your car look 'sick' or 'hench' or even perhaps like a 'clungewagon'? I also dont understand why somebody should want to lower their car so that there is virtually no clearance between the tyres and the wheel-arch? To my mind, doing that makes your car pretty useless when driving over any terrain other than a perfectly smooth and level surface.

I have to agree, you see these people spend ££££ body kits etc and for me these look cheap and tacky, if you want a faster car buy a faster car. I had a Vrs for 3 months which I loved and it had the power I needed and it was a nice looking car. I now have the 1.9TDI estate which I love even more.

Lowering the car means the car runs the greater risks of hitting the speed humps. How many times have we raced young lads in in clapped out Corsa's with all they body kit etc and loud speakers to fly past them, if they spent want it cost them on the kit and speakers they would have got a decent faster car. But we are all different which makes this forum fun and interesting

I have a modified Roomster.

Does this make me a Chavvy Teenager?

People modify because they can. They will modify a 1.4 or a 1.2 because it's what they have. How do you learn? My first car was a 1978 Mini which I restored from junk to a reasonable standard and dear lord it was slow. I used to try all sorts to get a little more out of it. Utter pointless as any mod that did anything made it drink fuel but I learnt so much. If the worst thing that happens is they get the pi55 ripped and they realise they will never sell it then thats fine because they wont do it again.

It's a free country and amen to people having balls.

im getting a 1.4 mpi hopefully in a few months and i plan on changing the alloys etc. i must say that yellow one looks quite tasteful:)

What a complete load of rubbish.

I'm going to agree in part with the OP because I've had the suspension dropped and it's been a significant hassle as I have to choose between it going round corners flat or not being able to manoeuvre in tight spaces like I used to. Oddly enough, when you're stuck trying to turn around in a tight street, that extra bit of lock is bloomin' handy.

.........The whole forum is rather frustratingly dominated by a bunch of chavvy teenagers. One presumes of a slightly better class than one would find on a Corsa forum, but chavvy teenagers just the same......

Bloody 'ell i think that's the first time i've known anyone even think anything like that about this place..... On the contrary i think the amount of younger drivers that you may be refering to is probably very much in the minority. Believe me having come from forums relating to Polos & CTR's it's definately not dominated by a group of chavvy teenagers!!!

.........messing with the suspension which again can compromise handling and cause accidents......

Hmmmmm let me think..... What do manufacturers do to the suspension on the sporty versions of their models?????

Ohhhhhh yeah that's it....... They lower them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please explain how lowering the car a loittle makes it harder to handle as i'm sure you could pass this info on to all the car manufacturers who do exactly that on their sporty models.

..........I only hope that all the mods on here are properly accounted for with the relevant authorities and insurances.......

Yes mine are thank you very much.:)

From the looks of your sig you're wishing you'd bought a japanese car...... Sorry but i think you'll find a HELL of a lot more chavved up jap cars than you ever will skodas!!!!!

I was trying sooooooo hard to ignore this TROLL thread but i'm sorry to say i've succombed. :o

Cheers

Dave.

I reckon the OP would be a right laugh down the pub.

i fitted a really loud exhaust to my car for one very simple reason and no other. one day i hope to meet you and go past flat out so i can pi$$ you off

and about safety with regards the front bumper, do you actually know anything of the construction of a fabia or octavia especially around the front bumper area? obviously not as you would know the front bumper offers absolutely no structural enhancement to the car at all and by changing the grille your not affecting the safety of those you may hit either.

and your also comparing teenagers in clapped out corsa's with those on here and members under the age 20 are actually quite rare and the vast majority are actually 25+ I'd say

but yeah well done for posting

could you please point out just one member on here with a multimillion penny bodykit please :)

Fair point but still cost a lot to put more plastic on the car.

every ones to there own. shouldn't matter what car or what size engine its your car and you can do what u want to it. theres a 3 wheeler going around down here a purple one with blue tints an two loud exuasts;) looks lush lol

Well i beleive people like to personalise their cars.

Im 37 an adult, own a computer business and just wanted to make the car my own, chrome numberplate surrounds, seat belt vrs covers to stop the thing from ruining clothes etc and ive done the stutter mod. Next year once out of warranty i intend to add a pd160 and go for a remap and lower slightly.

Im not doing it to look flash i just want to make it slightly better.

I think modding a car so it looks 'barry' style is dumb but then im 37 lol.

But as to why people improve on the standard car, well its been going on forever, i bet even Romans modded their chariots back in the day!

I'm 32, I have two very loud Golfs and they are both very low indeed.

:P

Ohhhhhh yeah that's it....... They lower them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i'm sorry, but that isn't strictly true, making the suspension lower is merely a marketing trick... basically faster people want lower cars because it looks 'cool'

i must say there is a lot of sense in what the op has said, i've completely ruined my felicia by modifying it and made it impractical, and now (when the engine is finally going;)) it will be quite partial to the odd drop of petrol too... but then i suppose it comes down to personal choice, i must admit i'm surprised at some of the hostile responses in this thread, remember not everybody comes on this site because they are seasoned modifyers, they come on because they are after a bit of basic advice or whatever about a car which they use to get from A to B... essentially that is all it is, just a machine that takes you from one place to another, nothing more...

at the end of the day, you pays your money, you make your choice

Im 37 with a chavved up fabia :)

Im 37 with a chavved up fabia :)

Yeah but your only as old as the person you feel dave, you know that.

i agree with op,and i am only 64!!

Don't even get me started on those that try to modify a 1.4 mpi or 1.2.......

FIRSTLY Learn how to use paragraphs and make a post readable. Clearly being a teenage chav with my heart set on ruining my Skoda I don't have the attention span to read that spew of ******** you call a post.

Aside from that I paid for my 1.4 mpi. I can do what I want with it.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a laugh or two at the people who blatently modify at a buget, but equally its their car and their money and therefore their choice. If you don't like it sit at home and watch home improvement shows, because I'm sure you'll find that much less offensive to your sense of style and taste. The government should have much better things to do with its time that waste it limiting peoples options and choices because a few old farts were upset.

Its annoying because of a few people who do put cheap minimal effort into the "modifying" of their cars then drive like complete ****s, anyone who does the former is tarred with the same brush.

But surely a home improvement show is all about modifying your home. Whats right for one person isn't necesarily right for another person
