Octavia 1.9Tdi - Time for New Tyres

Featured Replies

Hello all,

It's time for some new tyres for our our Octavia 1.9Tdi hatch. It's on 41,000 miles and all the tyres are still the originals (Michelin Pilot HX) except the front nearside which was replaced at one year old (Michelin Pilot Primacy).

The front two are down to around 2 - 2.5 mm and need replacing now, and the rear two are around 3.5 - 4mm and I plan to replace those a little later.

I know there's a fair bit of historical advice on the forums about tyre choices, but I'm after some current recommendations please.

I have no particular problem in buying two new Michelin's for around £85 each (they do, if nothing else, seem to last a long time). But are there any better value alternatives? I've read about Falkens, Toyos and others but people's opinions does seem to conflict a bit. I can certainly say that our car does not get driven hard ... just hum-drum family driving around Kent.

Grateful for any and all advice.

Thanks,

D.

falken f452 work well for me..... and last well. I do 120mile round trip 4 days a week and only seem to need to replace my fronts approx once a year, and the rears every other year (ish)

Hancock ventus prime K105 work very well for me.

Beat the originals and the Pirelli P7's that replaced them.

£62.00 fitted and balanced.

wet and dry excellent

approx 35k per set.

I'm a Kuhmo ku31 man. They're quiet, v grippy, hardish wearing (done about 8000miles and still looking very good), excelent in the wet.

I hope to get around 30k from the fronts on my car before I need to replace them :-)

If you can find them Vredestein tyres are worth a try. Come out top in various industry/magazine tests.

Last time I got tyres I was working near Crawley couldn't get Vredesteins so got Hancook(?) Optimo. Seem to be wearing well but when I had them on the front, traction seemed very poor now running them on the back.

Black circles seem prety good on price for various makes. I have never used them yet but am tempted.

I hope to get around 30k from the fronts on my car before I need to replace them :-)

Do you drive like an undertaker?:mischief:

last pair i got were AVON AV ZV5 and are doing rather well. Bought them from https://www.tyre-shopper.co.uk. They use any national tyre depot for the fitting and cost about £100+vat for the pair.

Nokians (H, V, or Z) are my preferred choice for many years. quiet, mileage not much worse than Michelins, 30%-50% cheaper and much, much better in the wet

I order online and fit at a local tyre shop.

They also have tyre wear indicator on the thread, so instead of measuring it you just read out thread depth.

I wouldn't go past Toyo tyres now, absolutely superb, try Blackcircles, excellent service and prices!

Another vote for 452. not a problem and about 30k on the front when doing a 60:40 motorway/town split.
