Rear facing baby seats in the back of the Fabia

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Currently looking at getting a baby seat for the Fabia and having a bit of difficulty choosing one that will be suitable. The ones we've tried (combination ones) are all a bit of a sod to get in when rear facing as the front seat has to be moved all the way forward and also the seat belt is too short to reach all the way round.

Isofix is an alternative (albeit an expensive one) but that still doesn't stop the seat from fouling on the back of the front seats when rear facing.

Front facing seems to be fine fit wise, but the thought of a baby facing that way in a prang doesn't bear thinking about.

A search on here seems to suggest people having similar issues but no-one states many specific models that would be suitable for the Fabia, especially rear facing wise.

Has anyone found a specific car seat that fits the Fabia back seats easily when rear facing? Should I be looking at any model in particular? Should we be looking at a car seat from birth to 12 months or one that goes from birth to 4? Got no passenger airbac deactivation switch (ridiculous - these should be standard fit) so the seat has to go in the back.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Thanks,

Chris.

We used a Graco travel system, Pram, car seat and fixed rear facing seat base for the car.

Something similar to this.. clicky.. The seat base looks like this.. clicky..

Infact I think we've still got it, it's just gathering dust nowa days..

Some briskoda baby research:

Lots of travle system recommendations, tricky to pick out just a baby seat one.

Yeah, been through most of those. Boot wise we're ok - we got a buggy that fits quite well, we just need the baby seat now.

The Britax website details seats for certain cars but they tend to suggest difficulty in fitting seats to the Fabia stating that they could only just obtain a satisfactory fit in the back. :(

Ok we have a Fabia Estate and have used a Maxi Cosi Cabrio for both our little ones (4 and 1 respectively). The seatbelt will fit round but whichever front seat it is behind needs to go a bit further forward. It also got good reviews in the Which best buy reports and is marked high on safety.

We use an Isofix Britax (Cosy Tot IIRC) in the rear nearside seat. Yes, the front nearside seat needs to be moved quite far forward, but there's still just about enough room for me to sit in front of it (I'm 6' tall). It will also fit with just the seatbelt.

HTH

Another option is to get the front passenger airbag deactivated (as I did, £40 or so) and use just about any old rear-facing seat.

This week I have been mainly using a Rockatot from Britax.

I'm amazed Skoda never fitted a deactivation switch on this car with child seats in mind.

My last car had one in the glove box and that was Vag Group. Luckily my daughter moved up into a bigger car seat around the same time as i bought my Fabia, so it never became a problem for me. Now she has this to travel around in:

at times i wish i was 1 again ;)

Thanks guys - at least I know the front seat will deffo have to move forward to fit this in. In terms of disabling the pass air bag - is that a VAG COM thing? Didn't think it was possible without changing a few things or disconnecting some cables.....

It is indeed a VAG COM thing -- I think.

No disconnecting of cables required.

What you do get, though, is an orange sticker warning of the deactivated airbag.

£10 a pop they are too!

You think that's bad? -- until recently, you had to buy three of them!

Good god - they know how to make their ££!

Thanks for the advice though mate - it's deffo an option if the cramped rear seat proves too much of a PITA. ;)

I bought my Fabia estate to move my little man about he is 3 weeks on saturday we had a suzuki jimny before. we had a Jane travel system think its the duplo nurse one ?

Anyway it fitted in the jimny but sat up at a funny angle little mans head dropped forward this concerned me so I looked at the fabia.

However the N/S rear seat belt was loads longer than the O/S rear or the centre belt !!! so his seat just about fitted the front seat has to go forward a tad but I am 5' 10" no probs at all.

If you have to buy a new seat I highly recomend the jane travel system about £180 on ebay its a car seat which also lays flat & a push chair, little man seems happy in either bit & the mrs loves it easy to push around & light to lift in & out of car.

Hope this helps.
