What Happened in 2004 to the VRS?

Featured Replies

Hi.

I've bought a 04 plate vrs.

Which version/model year is it likely to be because it has things other 04's don't (it was actually a 04 demonstrator).

I ask because it doesn't have any seat belt warning lights or bleeps. It does have a 3 point rear-centre belt and has the shorter "fabia" length vrs badge on the back.

I ask because I'm intrigued to know it this means it has the revised ecu and box I've read about on the forums? Is there a list of 04 revisions anywhere cuz I can only find lists for 54/05 and 06/56.

Thanks

Rob :-)

You may find you car, being a demo had some extras fitted. The seatbelt warning and light are easily disabled by disconnecting a wire under the seat. If you look under the seat you maybe able to see where they have been disconnected. Reconnecting them should bring the seatbelt warning back.

Thanks for that, I'm going to look under the seat to see if my seatbelt warning light has not been reconnected, I would presume this will be the same for a 05 plate fabia?

yep, should be the same. If you have airbags in the seats, make sure the ignition is off.

My June 04 has no seatbelt warning light either

I wonder then, I know the octy vrshad the warning from launch in 2001. It would seem odd that the fabia didnt have it from launch (or dit it have it before it was discontinued)

No seat belt warning light for me either ;)

It's not so much the warning light that I'm interested in, was just using that as an example as I read this was indeed dropped at some point (before the 05 revisions i think though) but more anything different I can't see?

As for it being a demonstrator... I can't see that being the explanation for the later vrs badge cuz surely they didn't exsist before they were the norm? Couldn't have been a option, surely?

Was the 3rd 3 point belt an option all along then up until 2005?

What I'm more interested in is if this is one of the 2004 revised VRS's I've heard mentioned every so often, a pre facelift set of revisions?.. or maybe someone can confirm these didn't happen?

Either way, thanks for the comments!

That's what I'm after.. huge thanks bud!

I thought my warning light was broken as its stopped warning me. Mines an 04 plate. I'm convinced it did do it in the past but I could be wrong.

True, but just wanted to know if the 04 revisions did exist because, if they didn't.. the newer badge and younger back seat could have meant something more sinister like vandalism or accident damage,..

Ans also, after reading about better ratio boxes for better motorway driving.. I was just intrigued.

So, that settles that then.. It must be the 04 revisions. I looked on google image search though... allot of 04 cars have the Octavia's older VRS badge from before the lil Fabia got it's own!.. must have been older stock.

I guessed that with mine being black and a demonstrator (though, it was never actually demonstrated apparently, was bought before it ever went out).. it would have been up to date when it arrived!

I'd love to know how old some of the later yellow ones really are!.. Not saying it's a bad colour, but must have been the slowest selling!

Thanks

Rob :-D

So You've got a lap belt, not a 3 pointer.. but new badge & box?

Sounds like they made a few changes as and when the stock was re orderd then.. which I guess is normal.

P.S. I like ya wheels ;-) Just read the thread (and also, that VR6 with the VW Vento nose looked sweet)

I think changes started to trickle through May-July 2004 so cars built in this period are "half facelifted" so to speak

Can someone show me examples of a preface lift and a face lifted car? i'm confused......

Mine is an 04 - no seatbelt warning - short vRS badge - 3 point rear belt.

Whats different about the dash in a facelift version, and are there any other visible signs that one is a facelift model? all the ones i have seen have looked like mine (with or without the optional extras such as xenons)

Mines an 04/54reg (ordered in september) and I have:

new lights

shorter badge

3 point rear belt

gear ratios

no rear door pins

No seat belt warning

old dash

Not sure about the ASR logo as I wouldn't know what the old one was like to compare.

I think the dash has a different appearance up near the front window area.

The early vRS's had a different rear light cluster too.

This is my rear end.... are they new or old lights?

**EDIT: It's ok, just looked around at some pics on pistonheads, looks like mine are the old style lights then. I never noticed the difference before, i always thought when people spoke about the new lights they meant they'd put lights from the fabia 2 on somehow...... :o:rolleyes:

Yeah, the back lights got updated in 2005 as part of the facelift across the range. instead of 2 lil white blobs it became a nice sharp sideways white V for the reverse & caters!!

I'm hoping (when funds allow.. a lil broke having only just bought the thing).. to get some as I prefer them! I know it's only a lil change but they do just look a little fresher!

The rear lights were a definate 05 thing though.. the 3 point belt, short badge, disabled front belt warning and updated box seem to have slipped out between 04 and 05.

Is it easy to work out whta box is on my Fabia?

Thanks

Rob.

The front grille is also different on the early cars..

Newer ones have the vertical bars tapering in at an agle, where the old ones go straight back (if that makes sense) :D

My vRS is a November 04/54 plate

Its got the newer style grille, short badge, new rear lights, 3 point belt, uprated box (i presume), no rear door pins, and the old untextured dash. It doesnt have the seatbelt warning though.

Whats the difference between this ASR light?

Old Asr light is a warning triangle, new one is a skidding car.

TBH all the changes are so minute lol
