MFD 2, its in

Featured Replies

Almost too easy after following vrstu's brillant guide. :D

I've basically just removed trim, out with the old Stream and chucked in the MFD2 with GPS antenna and powered up. Booted and replaced the old trim with a new from my Skoda pusher. Engine, ESP and ABS showed their lights but disappeared after some meters of driving. Even my Sony Ericson Bluetooth device works. Did I mention 20 min? :D

Now for questions...yeah it had to be something...

Having a original DX UK & Irland navi cd in the unit it says no navi cd. Does this have any thing to do with my posistion? (Located in Denmark)

About VAG-COM, why should I, does it make any difference and if I should, is it urgent? Everything seems to be playing along nicely, cd, radio, SE bluetooth kit, parking sensors

Oh and thanks to Damo for the very special delivery.

I don't think it would say no disk but you might get something about not being on a digitised map.

VAG-COM is not a major issue but just tidy's everything up.

Really changes the interior. Ever thought of adding a DVB tuner on the aux? It's a shame that plug is sticking out there rather than being routed to the glovebox (or any other place).

IMO, you should do the VAGcom optimizations.

VRStu: Thanks for the feedback. I've got a European version which it likes. However it seems that I need to do a power cycle, switching between radio, info etc before it recognized it. To be honest, I dont really know if it ever have had a navi installed.

sebulbus: I agree about the plug's sticking out. One is to operate the bluetooth and the other is for charging, so the glovebox isnt really an option. I never use the charger so that could be hidden and the controller could be mounted on the trim with some tape. About the DVB tuner, do you have any more information about that? Which, where and how?

Cheers.

I've seen one put in a VW Passat w MFD2 in the glovebox, where the cd changer used to be. The lad also had an Ipod connection in the armrest to offset the cd changer's absence.

It worked pretty cool, the antenna was somewhere along the dash and it picked up the 3 or 4 channels broadcasting digital over here. What I do remember is that it looked exactly like a 1DIN cd unit and fit the glovebox perfectly.

About the charging plug, I'd at least route it in the small cubby in the kick panel, a phone can sit quite comfortably there.

Unless I go nuts and upgrade with an OEM Bluetooth kit :o Actually I have a Creative Zen M which I should try to get working on the AUX. I dont have the jumbo box with the extra AUX plug, so I would have to figure something else out. Without a cd changer and a navi cd in the unit I need something extra.
